I've got a few questions regarding overclocking this chip.

I recently picked one up from here, and had a quick play with it last night for an hour or so.

Given it's a pretty cheap chip, I wouldn't be *too* upset if it got fried, and so did a few reckless overclocks.

I got it to 3.5Ghz at stock volts, but wanted to see what it would take to hit 4.

I tried 1.4v and then finally got prime95ing at 4Ghz with 1.425v. My temps were showing at around 58C under load (I'm not sure it was reading correctly - I heard some of the temp sensors on these chips are faulty?).

I think I could probably nudge the voltage down a bit, but bearing in mind that it's a 45nm chip, is 1.425v excessive for everyday usage using an air cooler? (freezer 7 pro)

What is an acceptable idle/load temp?

4ghz with 1.425 :O i had to go upto 1.6v @ 3.9ghz to e able to boot into windows and i cant even get the damn thing stable @ 3.5ghz with 1.45v running through it :( me thinks i got a dud lol.

Well heres my one :)

Bigger pic of orthos and temps.

Clicky

Its currently sat under the superb Xigmatek HDT - S1283 with its fan running at sub 1000 rpm, totally silent and it cost about 22 quid afaik

Pretty sure i could get it stable at 4ghz with 1.45-1.50 volts but I want this chip to last me a while, ideally not loosing its ability to clock so well :D

Here's where I'm currently at:

Obviously my RAM is running really slow as it is at the moment, so it's still a work in progress.

It seems Orthos/Prime stable (albeit only tested for a couple of hours) and I get 59C under load.

I haven't actually tried clocking it over 4Ghz.

I'm trying to get my RAM running at 800Mhz before I try and draw back on the juice.

When I try to lower the multi to 10 and increase the FSB to 400 it doesn't even post though.

I'm a total overclocking noob, so I think I'm missing something glaringly obvious, but I guess it's going to take some forum trawling.

What mobo are you using?

Also, what's the fsb wall of these supposed to be roughly?

I managed 420 with an E6550, same RAM and Mobo, but the E5200 won't do over 340 :(
