an E6850 landed in the post today.

and here it is, 3.6 atm. no messing what so ever :)

e6850ux9.jpg

Orthos gromacs temps were 55~57 underwater, though thats stright out the box so everythings still fresh (vCore @ 1.35)

going to let it settle abit, more to follow..

My temps are deffinatly higher than i was expecting (was thinking 55~57 @ 4GHz not 3.6).

though when i was running a 6320 @ 2.9 max load was 34~36 (that was at 1.27vCore - yes thats right xD i gave up going for more speed and went for lowest temps lol)

55~57 considering the jump to 3.6 from 2.9 seems proportional to me.
idle is 27~28

its just the CPU in the loop too, should i really be expecting lower? and if so how much?

ive got AS5 in there too

the excitement has worn off allready

after further investigation, seems after pulling the water block off and putting it back, a kink had formed in an out of sight place

however, its sorted now :relief:

looks abit better now :)

now, off to sleep :o

Ah i see.

What about them graphs if they are realistic the diffrence between 3GHZ and 4GHZ is pretty worthless to be honest?

got to think about the future though :)

whats the diference between 60fps and 80? not really that much

but when the newer software comes out..

whats the difference between 20fps and 40?

quite a lot :)

i wasent planning on upgradeing anytime soon after i got a C2D setup, but the 6320 chip just wasent what i was hoping.

after the 6850 i'll probably keep it for a while, im hoping to break 4G with it stable and then probably wont upgrade for maybe a year-ish.

clone, i'll be very interested in how your 680i board copes clocking the chip.

atm ive had a lot of difficulty pushing past 3.6 stable - wich is orthos stable, but games can crash it in seconds  - ram is at stock too

my board's a P5N32-e Sli

how on earth are u getting 4g out of it  :(

mine will post all the way to 4.2

3.7 wont even get me the windows logo..

even at 1.65vcore with vtt and ht pushed up by 0.1

im starting to think its my board...

cooling isnt a problem, ram isnt even upto stock at 1:1

atm its at 375x9 , 400x9 is orthos stable, but any "real life" stress kills it :(

orthos for hour+ fine.. load any recent game, total lock up in seconds~few minutes : /

gtx is at stock aswell.

temps even at 1.65 (in bios - 1.59 actual) dont go over 60oC

with a 6320 in it was stable at 412.5x7

wich just leads me to blame my mobo and its inadequacy

will have to see if a new bios can fix things.. but there isnt a new one yet from the revision i have atm.

otherwise i'll just have to live with it

Had it 4 hr stable cpu 1.48v then a restart,TAT said when ORTHOS was running my cpu temp was 35c,rad,hose and cpu block was cold to the touch.

Im no master overclocker and im still learning as i go so i`ll stick at it and report back.

How are you running TAT on a nv680i chipset mobo???

i cant run it, gives an error about the multiplier or something (cant recall exactly - at work atm)

i read somewhere it was to do with speedstep? but thats been off/on (always off now) to try and get it to run.

read somewhere else that TAT only worked on intel chipsets?

i'll have to give it another go when i get back =)

But in real life a Q6600 clocked to 3GHz is better then a E6850 at 4ghz??

Also, in games which are quad core enabled. Would you say the quad would be better? IF you were to add the ghz up its 12ghz vs 8ghz. I know it dont work quite like that. But surely the quad is still better?

see here,

and more notably, this graph :)

the dual cores higher clocks are a definate advantage in certain situations (mostly games) more cores win for encoding ect.

untill both high clocks and cores are doable (single dye Quad anyone?) then the choice is still based on what your going tobe doing with the chip :)

getting there slowly

dropping LDT from x5 to x4 seemed to help a lot for some reason (anyone know what it is/does? lol)

not quite stable though died in orthos after 30ish mins :(

cant be bothered to do more for now, back to 3.5 for abit of gaming lol

edit: btw clone, my chip is the same batch as yours :)

A couple of quick points:

A CPU that is cooler than the surrounding ambient temperature simply isn't possible. It defies the laws of physics.

Running chips at frequencies that are only stable long enough for a SuperPI run or 2 mins of ORTHOS (lol) is a bit pointless really, isn't it?

Not trolling, but surely we should all be aiming for useable frequencies. I can run my C2D at 4.5Ghz+ for all the good it will do given it will only last minutes at that speed.

30mins of orthos is a lot longer than 2min, also Clone is running 4ghz wich has passed 4 hours+ orthos-age. An 8 hour run would be awesome ofc ;)

its not going to be a simple case of whack the fsb to 445 and bang! 4ghz good to go, theres other things that need to be adressed to get it stable.

i had difficulty at first even getting to the windows boot logo at 4g's going from that to 4gs pie and 30min orthos is a big step forwards - and im still convinced its my board rather than the chip - but maybe there is something else i can finetune... otherwise i might have to settle for 3.9 ect

aiming for a stable clock is my ultimate goal ofc but its an on going process to find outexactly what the max stable is. No-one here is spouting 4ghz stable!!!! but rather just shareing our experiances *so far*.

these chips are new and were still finding out what they are truly capable of.

anyone had any luck getting past 4gig stable ?

voltage seemed to need a big jump from 1.48 to around 1.55+ to start pushing to 4.1 (or more) and at those kinda volts temps become an issue even with water for me

TAT pushed temps to 68c at the core  i let it run for about 2s before i bottled it and clicked stop lol. Didn't crash tho :)

im happy with 4gig atm everything feels faster (or i just convince myself it is lol)
