E60 M5 Spark plugs

It does have full BMWSH and will continue to have

BMW can change the engine oil and do inspections that it, thats about £300 and they stamp the service book

And when the maintenance schedule says "Replace spark plugs"? Are you going to let BMW just replace them again or are you going to say "I did them myself, just stam my book".

You are aware that the E60 M5 has condition based servicing yeah? It doesn't go Ins 1, Oil, Ins 2, Oil, Ins 1 etc like BMWs of old.

BMW dont manufacture spark plugs

they're ngk ones painted white with a bmw logo printed on the side

What if it has an SMG problem, common on the M5, you 'qualified' to work on the SMG too? It makes total sense to save a few pennies when you can but I suspect you'll do everything on the cheap like most owners of these cars at £13K and there is a difference. Your car however, do with it as you wish.

, Im a qualified mechanic can do plugs myself and reset computer

Best lol of the week

Going by some of the previous postings of yours I wouldn't let you work on my kids pedal car let alone anything with a combustion engine.

they last saw it 5000 miles ago for an oil service

it may not need another oil service if i dont keep it that long

Why bother doing the plugs then if you aren't going to keep it long enough for it to have another oil change? Is the spark plug change to try and remedy a problem?

Its had a Clutch, Flywheel, SMG pump, and some wear sensor thats common to fail, had this job done a few years ago, I wouldnt of bought an M5 still on original clutch

My car wasn't even £13k, It was £12000

BMW's with Condition Based Servicing will tell you on iDrive when certain parts are due replacement. Presumably iDrive is now saying renew Spark Plugs.

No problems, an explanation mark came up on dash other day, when I went into the i-drive it says it needs spark plugs

Yea, but you know BMW will never see the car, pull the other one.

I get the distinct impression that it will be a case of a mate works in a BMW dealer and will borrow the stamp as required. Either that or a cheaply bought stamp off eBay.

Mate of mine had 4 boxes in his in 20K miles. One change does not a reliable SMG make in the M5.

Just reset the computer with your qualified box. As you say, no point being like a sheep and taking what BMW tell you to do, surely?

This reinforces the need to check with BMW directly of the SH held on their computer.

How will it without the spark plugs?

There is a space in the E60 service book for plugs!

Sometimes things like this would happen when I had a car to service i.e. the service instructions would state that the customer supplied and/or fitted their own spark plugs (or other service item like oil filter, air filter etc).

The service book would be stamped as normal by the service advisor & the only record that this had occurred would be at this one dealer *edit on the jobcard. So everyone here thinking that a main dealer FSH means that genuine parts have always been fitted, and by the dealer technicians, is mistaken.

Doesn't seem right to me but it did happen.
