Right, I have a Core2 Conroe E6300 running on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a freezer 7 pro rev2. Ive got it running on stock volts at 2.24Ghz. However, I've tried to bump it up to 2.4Ghz but it just doesn't seem to want to play ball. I've bumped the ram by plus 0.2V and bumped the CPU up by a couple of notches in voltage options. It barely gets past the first few seconds of POST at 2.5 Ghz and windows throws up a load of errors at 2.4Ghz.

It just seems weird to me that it's crapping out such a small push later, despite a boost in volts. Prime95 chucks up no errors and heat is fine at 2.24Ghz. That and I'm pretty sure this chip can do better with this setup.

Also, I accidently left PCI EXpress frequency at Auto instead of 100 when I tried for 2.5Ghz. I realised abotu 20 seconds in (computer didn't boot properly anyway) and reset the machine to change the setting. Is there a chance I could have damaged something?

Jsut looking for soem advice as why it's not going that far? This is my first overclock so these are baby steps for me and I'm not 100% sure on what to expect.

Also I didn't touch the system memory multiplier. Do I need to do this to get it faster? I've noticed at my current overclock, the memory is sitting at 800, being PC6400 and all.

Yeah, so I was being retarrded and had the memory multiplier at 2.5 instead of 2 :o. Gonna give the ram a thorough going over to check for errors.

Okay so I've got it stable on stock volts at 2.6Ghz, but it seems to crap out on 2.7-2.8Ghz. I've tried bumping the voltages for the CPU and RAM but Windows just bluescreens after loading. Any suggestions?
Bluescreen error was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Would this point to the RAM?

try bumping the cpu voltage up as high as is safe, think it might be 1.35 for conroes i forget and make sure your ram is running at its recommended voltage, also id turn the ram as far down as you can, its enough of a pain getting a processor stable in these situations without ram kicking you in the nuts too

Best I can do on the RAM is 5 5 5 18. Im running some Geil and some OCZ. The Geil is rated to 4 4 4 12 and 2.2v while the OCZ is 5 5 5 18 at 1.8v, though OCZ say it can overvolt to 2.1v. I wont be able to get them tighter than that. Also the stock voltage for my E6300 is 1.325V so I would have thought it could take mroe than 1.35v?

Also would sacling back the ram to CL6 give me more headroom? Under the memory timing table in speedfan it suggests my RAM should be running at CL6 at 400FSB

Loosen the memory timings (or under clock) until you have got your cpu stable - then you can work on the memory.
I find that trying to do both at the same time gets confusing if you dont know which is holding you back.

By loosen I guess you mean take CAS 5 to CAS 6? Do I drop teh last number (18 in this case) too?

there is a section that this chip would not overclock in for some weird reason therefore starting at stock and going up in small increments did not work!!

I had to take a leap and bypass this overclocking dead zone i left volts alone and went straight to 450 * 7 (might have been 425*7 initially it was a long time ago) and mine works fine and has done 24/7 for the last 2 years.
