hi there just trying to oc my new rig and im running it right now at 2450mhz
and intel tat loaded with both cores is showing me as high as 63c with my zalman cnps9500 led turned up full.

it only got built a few days ago with a 8800 gtx and was hoping for at least 3ghz.

i did not build it someone else did and i seen him apply the as5 in like a @ swirl it seemed a lot of as5 imo and wasnt in a straight line accord to the dual core specification from artic silver. i **** of said something but heres the thing

he thought my mobo was dead as the fan didnt powerup straight away and took it apart and cleaned off the as5 but i checked it out rang him back and it went fine came on and so it was built again.

i said nothing as i was just glad it was going.

these temps tho seem way too high for my setup ive only upped the core voltage by 1 notch 1.328 read from cpu-z.

**** i back off and wait say 2 weeks and get it cleaned up and re seated?

pretty sad about it and help would be appreciated thanks

Yeah definitely reapply a small amount of AS5.

Can't you do it yourself instead of waiting 2 weeks?

re

i do not have the knowledge to do it i am afraid :/

a small rice sized grain in the middle would have been better but will waiting 2 weeks effect it much? i mean once it has set it it hard to remove will i need to buy anything to clean it?

@2.5 now seems stable tho i have not stress tested for more than half an hour

temps in tat still 60c full load is that safe or should i back off as its only like 3 days old

Nah it's easy to remove. Wipe it off with a tissue and then clean it with some alcohol or similar.

60c and below is fine.

at 2.8ghz mine was running 42deg c IIRC, same setup as you but TT120.

i put about a 10p peice worth single layer and spread it out myself with a plastic spoon end.

For C2D's, Arctic Silver advise drawing a vertical line down the middle and twisting the heatsink slightly. It worked well for me. Temps weren't any lower than spreading it out with a credit card, but doing it the A.S. way is quicker and less messy.

Temps should be kept below 60 at the max. Should really be around the 55 mark if you wanna keep your cpu for any lenght of time!

Anyway, just use some Isopropyl Alcohol, dab a bit on a tissue then remove the paste very slowly. You will see it coming off. Its very simple.

The best way to apply thermal paste, and what all the real pro's do is get a rubber glove or some cellophane. Apply a pea sized amount and then rub the paste around on the cpu. You will see it filling the microscopic holes on the cpu.

And voila! You should be done!
