Hi guys, need some help here.......

Just built a Core2 setup with the following in it

E6300
Gigabyte DS3
X1950Pro PCIe(512MB)
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2
500GB Samsung Spinpoint HDD
Tuniq Tower Cooler

Overclocked it to 2.5Ghz and ran Intel TAT for 1 hour, didnt have any more time to run it,which passed, however when trying to play any games the system reboots or locks up.
The motherboard and Gfx card have both been checked and no faults found, so I am thinking CPU

I need some help or pointers here plz guys, I am close to ordering another CPU, but want to try and cover all the possible problems before I do.

Cheers in advance for your help :)

Bry.

*EDIT* The board is running the F7 BIOS

Hi

I assume your only stressing the cpu with the load feature in TAT?

Try running the Orthos blend test, as this stesses ram and cpu. If this fails, then you can attempt to diagnose problems by underclocking the ram and cpu individually, etc

Sounds more like an issue with the ram to me, are you overclocking the ram?

I had this problem initially.

Have you over-volted your memory, chipset? This may help the problem.

core volt 1.424v

memory volt 2.1v

Read that ds3 guide carefully.

Looks like it is definately a RAM problem, 1 Stick passes memtest fine but the other one wont even run, it just crashes memtest or freezes the PC.

Going to RMA the RAM and get it replaced :)

Ok things are getting worse now, I have replaced the RAM and the system now will not boot at all, I am now onto my 3rd motherboard and 2nd set of RAM, this really is beginning to annoy the hell out of me.

I have never suffered like this before when building a PC

Need some urgent help of you guys on this one please.

Cheers

Bry.

I've got this the last few days. Only change i've made is a new HDD. Done a small amount of reading around on it and most i could find was to turn off automatic restart and wait for the blue screen.

Have you checked the event viewer for any errors?

OK I have stripped everything out of the case and it seems to be working fine, would it be possible that the screws used to hold down the Tuniq Tower could be touching the back of the motherboard tray? If they are what is the best way to stop them from doing this? Or could it be the Tuniq back plate is somehow shorting out on the back of the board?

Cheers

Bry.

This seems to be a recurring issue... make sure everything is seated again, ram et cetera, just in case.

Some success, but higher temps, have been seen with loosening the Tower.

EDIT to add

This seems to stop the screws touching the case - so anything nonconductive in the way might help too - masking tape et cetera

Just screwed the back plate onto the Tower again and the damn system wont boot, I am certainly thinking that the plate is shorting something out

I did think about putting something inbetween the plate and the motherboard to stop them touching each other.........any ideas?

Bry.

This is the third case of a Tuniq Tower causing instability, crashing and stopping a system from booting that I have seen on these forums so far. Always with the DS3 motherboard too.

Something must definitely be shorting.

I will try the foam suggestion but if I get no joy with that can anyone point me in the direction of another cooler, I was thinking about the Scythe Ninja.

Cheers

Yup, I had exactly the same problem and ended up with a smell of burning coming friom the mobo or cpu or both.

Exact same set up, DS3, e6300 and the tuniq.

I know what the burning smell is

Its the small chip just under and to the left of the CPU socket, its what fried on the other boards I have had

Ok solved the shorting issue by putting some 1mm gasket card on the legs of the back plate, I will post some pics when I get a chance :)

Just need to put everything back into the case and make sure it still works now.
