e6300 + ds3 still having overclocking issues.

Had my DS3 e6300, xt1800xt and 2gb of corsair xms2 6400 cas 4 for about 1 month now, ive tried over clocking a bit and found i couldnt push past 2.3 ghz on vcore of 1.45 with +0.1 on fsb and the chipset, and my ram dimm on +0.3.

I kept getting rounding errors in prime95.
It would super PI fine and boot and loads windows perfectley.

I thought it mite be down to my psu so ive got a new one today a hyper 580 watt modular, and im still getting the same problem :( ive disabled things like eist etc etc in advanced bios but it doesnt seem to help, is there anything im missing? Seeing as people have had 2.8 ghz on stock volts its quite annoying now, all i want is 2.8 ghz and then ill be happy! lol

Also what's a safe v.core for the e6300? or does it go by how hot the cpu gets?

yes i have originally i tried it with f6 and then found a lot of people were getting best overclocks with f4 so im usuing f4 now, i should have mentioned that, sorry! lol
 
You really need to read the 'DS3' thread and make sure you have followed all the advice on there.....
 
ive had a few reads on there before, tbh its 20 pages of peoples opinions on the board and showing off about their overclocks, i havent found it that helpful....
 
thanks for your help arrond, if ensured ive all of those settings correct, and it still hasnt helped ive got an artic cooling freezer 7 pro on there at it idles anywheer between 25-30 on stock volts and with a v.core of 1.45 its about 40 degrees, its not over heating the thing just doesnt wana be stable...

anyone more suggestions?
 
my rams all at stock so its cas 4 pc6400 800mhz stock, and its underclocked when on a fsb lower than 400 with a memory divider of 2.0. Not an expert with memory timmings but stock as far as i know. Volatge is at 2.1 atm +0.3 from default 1.8
 
what is your RAM ratio? you should be able to get to at least 2.8GHz whanks to the 800MHz ram, assuming you run it 1:1 (it will say 2.0 in the bios)
 
im a bit of a novice when it comes to ratios etc etc, could u explain a little bit more please? like how do i check the ratio? where abouts in bios is it?

I strongly recommend reading the clocking section in the link i gave you. To manually put your own ratio in instaed of the bios doing it automatically, on the bios main screen press ctrl + F1. Then go to the section where you overclock and you should have the RAM features available to you. Here you can select manual and put your own timings in. Check your RAM spec and see how tight they can go etc My ram is Geil 2GB PC6400. It can do 4-4-4-12 but when i slackened them i went from 430 fsb to 450 fsb and still going so its a trial and error thing. Running at 450 x 7 at the mo.

Even though the official DS3 thread is long, i recommend that you read it. This is my first ever built pc and overclock and i got all the information from this forum so if i can do it then so can you ;)

450s about standard overclock for these (its what I got without trying) I've managed to get the DS4 and E6300 to 461x7 (3.226GHz or somthing) at 1.372 (CPUz says 1.344)
thats with the Geil Ultra Low Laintancy stuff at 5-5-5-18 and 2.0 multi.

each overclock is different, its all about knowing when to give up and get phase change cooling.

Lol. Yeah my timings are at 5-5-5-15 and thats what made it clock more. It seems very stable at the mo (still doing orthos tests) but my temps are limiting me now 36C idle and 57C load so im not pushing it further.

I also got 5378 in 3dmark06, is this any good?
 
Could be a problem with your memory. I have the asrock DUAL-VSTA board and when I go up to 300FSP I can't get prime95 to run stable. I checked with memtest86 and got around 36 errors in my 2x512 PC3200 memory. I'm not sure what the acceptable amount of errors is. I've seen people getting 15,000 errors with their memory before. The funny thing is I always got the same rounding error in Prime95. 0.5 instead of below 0.4.

Use memtest86 and see what it says. Keep your ratio on 1:1 and bring the FSB up to 400 and see if your machine boots.
 
My E6400 experience is totally different. I am BIOS F5 and not really any kind of an overclocker but had to try at least. I found a thread giving advice for settings and whacked those on. Then started at 366 (as advised), then went straight to 400. At 3.2ghz the CPU is solid with Arctic Freezer7 and never above 60c. Not that fussed if it goes higher but I am now gradually dropping all voltages etc to get a stable system with min over-volting.

Hope it helps but this is the advice I got for BIOS settings.

HostClk Enable
Freq 333 (for start?)
PCIE 101 (read elsewhere that lots of boards hate OC when PCIE is 100!!)
CIA2 Dis
SysMem 2.0
DIMM o/v +.3v (mine is on +0.0)
PCIE - Normal
FSB - Normal
G-MCH +0.2v (mine 0.1v)
CPU 1.4v (mine 1.35 and coming down)

I'm gobsmacked how easy with this board and Conroe/Allendale a 50% overclock is easy. It might be a good week chip for me and poor for you tho... Week 30 for me.

Anyway, good luck. I'm tempted to buy a 2nd E6400 for the kids system now!
 
I know it's not exactly the same board, but I've just built a DS4/E6300 system this afternoon and I'm at 2.8GHz no worries. I think I would be able to get much higher overclocks but my RAM is holding me back a bit.

It's just Corsair Value RAM PC4200 at 2.1v.

So both the processor and the RAM are somewhat overclocked!

The truly incredible thing though is that it's idling at 26C and even at full load it's only 42C after 2 hours. That's with an AC Freezer Pro 7.

So either you are incredibly unlucky with your kit or you've got something mis-adjusted.

It is definitely possible though ;)
