E6300 & E6400: Tremendous Value Through Overclocking

OK, so are we saying is that the E6300 and Gigabyte DS3 is about the best value for money cpu/mobo combination out there?

Pretty much. Theres also the DS4 which (I think) is basically the DS3 but with crossfire. About £20 more.

Had to sell my DS3 to a client who needed repairs fast on their LGA775 setup, before i got my Conroe ES 6400, shame. Hoping my new DS3 and G Skill 2GB DDR800 come tomorrow.. wahhh :o Getting sweats.. need to know the OC potential :D I've only quickly test booted it on another DS3, so i know it works at least

Please let us know how that cpu clocks on the DS3. In particular I want to know the FSB speeds that it can reach.

Hey the Gigabyte DS3 from research I've done has been hitting upto 500FSB by some keen overclockers and thats still air cooled and un-modified.

From this research I believe the Gigabyte boards will be amongst the best sellers as they are well priced and awsome clockers. As such right now we have 100+ in stock of both the DS3 and DS4 boards, so plenty to go round. :)

I didn't think the DS4 (or any 965 boards for that matter) had crossfire.

The specs on the Gigabyte site also suggest not:
Dual PCI Express Graphics Slots
Intel® P965 Express chipset supports dual PCI-E graphics slots enable multi-view outputs which ensure maximum graphics performance for next generation GPUs and games

So unless you have a pressing need for 2 monitors running off 2 cards, the DS3 would seem adequate.

483fsb straight out of the box.
This might be the one to go for if you are on a budget.

I didnt plan to upgrade just yet, but I'm tempted to get the following:

e6300+
DS3+
suitable ram

and run this setup, watercooled, for about a year until Kentsfield CPUs show up.

EDIT: Here is a thread which pits the DS3 against the Asus P5W
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108077
DS3 seems to beat the more expensive Asus

Results just clarify everything people have been going on about for the last month or so. Overclocking these (which is suprisingly easy) also gives huge performance increases. Stop making me want to buy one

Can someone point me in the direction of a good overclocking guide for a noob. I'm thinking of building my first system in the next few months and was originally siding towards a AM2 MOBO and a X2 4200. But now I've seen that review for the E6300 I'm tempted to try my hand at overclocking with the Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3.

The problem is I don't want to fry my new board and chip.
