ok I have just taken off the cpu cooler, checked it was seated correctly on the cpu (Which it was) and replaced it. One thing I did notice is that when i turn on the pc, the cpu fan does not start up for like a minute then it kicks in. Is this normal? i take it that it waits for some heat before turning on? Also i tried plugging the heatsink into the system fan slot on the mobo instead of the cpu fan slot, it then rips into life straight away and is spinning really quickly, the only prob is, is that it will be too loud if i left it linked to the system fan slot on the mobo permentally.
I am begginging to wonder if I have the heatsink the right way round... at current the heatsink fan is facing the back of the case as it tellls you to do, but i have just checked with the case manual (Thermaltake Soprano) and the rear fan which faces the cpu cooler fan is the exhaust and the intake fan is in fact at the front of the case. So should/can you turn the heatsink round, so its intake fan faces the same sort of direction/location as the case intake fan? or leave it right by the exhaust fan at the rear of the case.
Help much appreciated.
Cheers.
EDIT: Ive just read the heatsink instructions again and it is right that the heatsink fan faces the case exhaust fan. But at the bottom of the instructions it also says that "All of our socket 775 coolers come with a PWM controller chip in the motor (4pin connector) according to intels specification. This alows the bios to control the fan precisely. In case the fan speed is not regualted according to the cpu load respectively temperature, enter the bios. Most socket 775 mainboards offer a CPU target temperature. Set it to 65oc, which means that the bios tries to keep the cpu around 65oc and thus lowers the fan speed as much as possible" So my cpu reading around 65 on full load with orthos would be correct if this is the case?
