hey just a quick bit of stats and advice needed please :D
my mate has an E6300 and hes just bought the ac7 pro i think and he wants me to help him overclock it as i told him about my pc :D hehe
right first off, should i use the paste that came with it or some of my silver5? blob or spread method?

now the more technical stuff... whats all the info i can get on this chip
i.e. stock multi,fsb, vcore. and whats a good speed to go for and around what volts and temps is this chip good for?

i was thinking of just using everest to check the temps as it reads the same as my coretemp but has mobo and other temps which would be useful, i can always run coretemp too so i can log the temps

responses are greatly appreciated :D
 
stock fsb/multi is 266x7, voltage is 1.325.

should be ok for 3ghz, depends on cooling (cpu and case).

Use the paste thats on the ac7 for the time being.

i would use 1.4v as the top end, maybe 1.45 if the temps are ok.
 
As mentioned, Voltages will vary quite a lot from CPU to CPU. Coretemp should be able to tell you what exactly yours is. Some are as high as 1.325V, some as low as 1.2V. Mine's 1.25V.

The regular thermal paste on the AC7 should do the job perfectly.

Clock speed wise, as low as 2.8GHz if it's a poor L2 revision chip but as high as 3.5-3.6GHz with a B2 or a good L2. This will depend a lot on the capabilities of the motherboard and the RAM due to the 7x CPU Multiplier. With DDR2-800 memory and a decent motherboard, 3.0GHz should be doable.

right well just over clocked it earlier with the ac7, well at stock we saw it idle at 33 degrees :D he said wow thats a 15 degrees drop! quite impressive, but now we've clocked it from 1.86 to 2.6GHz and stuck the voltage to 1.325 and it was idle at 49/50 and while testing in the first 30 mins went up to 57 which is what it was at before aparently so not too bad...but the vdrop was kinda bad cpuz was reading 1.325 at idle but under load was sometimes going as low at 1.296... not that great but i suppose as long as it stays stable that should be fine yea?
 
they get warm, but they overclock really well, not sure so much about the newer chips, mine was one of the first batch and it does 3.6ghz
 
Mine is at 3ghz, have had it up to 3.15, but I'm not sure whether that was the mobo or the chip topping out, currently running at 1.248 in Windows

I managed 3.15 when i had my E6300, 8x450 with Geil ULL 800MHz RAM. Never managed to get it any higher before i swapped it out for my Q6600. Really nice CPU overall
 
ahh cool :) i think hes got one of the first ones as its only a 7-6x multi :p he also has the first rev. DS3 board. apartently it stressed fine for 5 hours then he turned it off for the night, but then when he turned it on thismorning it had reset back :p doh!
 
You need to make sure you up the MCH and FSB voltages by 0.1. All the E6300s have 6 or 7 x multipliers :)

My E6300 has been runing at 2.8ghz for a long time now, passes all the stress tests has been stable.

The problem im having is after a reboot, sometimes it just loads into the OS other times it resets the BIOS settings back to stock and becomes a general pain of reboots for the settings to stay :(

Will increasing the MCH and FSB volatge help with that problem then ?
 
If you haven't increased them previously then yeah, as I say mine wouldn't hold an overclock at all until I did this, and now its stable as
