Hi everyone

I have just put together my new computer, everything seems ok but my cpu temp is showing 85C. As far as i know this is way to high. Ive checked it using everest, speedfan and coretemp, they all say the same, between 83-86C. Could it be that the sensor is wrong or is it really this high ? Is there any other programs someone can recommend me to try or some kind of test i can run ? The fan on the cpu is a normal intel fan, it came pre-applied with thermal paste. Below are my comp specs

E6300 (not overclocked)
8800gts (pre-overclocked to 600/1800)
Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (2x512MB)
Gigabyte GA_965P_S3

Touch the heatsink. If the core is at 83ºC, the heatsink will be warm if not hot to the touch.

Take the heatsink off again and confirm the contact with the CPU IHS and when replacing it, ensure it's fitted correctly and that all 4 mounting points are firmly attached.

re seat the heatsink :) did you remove the plastic bit off the bottom of the heatsink when you installed it?

it could just be a dodgy sensor?

Problem solved, took off fan and checked cpu, put it all back together and its gone down to 45c. Not sure what the problem was but its fixed. Can i just ask if those high temps would have damaged my cpu in any way ?

I mate

that image you post

shows the cpu went in a " throttling" state
because it have reached 85ºC,and this nice feature from Intel have entered in action, slowing down the cpu speed

that´s why your cpu is not damaged :)

by the way in the second image you post the cpu is not in the right speed (1600mhz)
it has to be 1867 mhz at stock speed

you must have a lower multiplier in the cpu settings or a lower fsb setting ( stock is 266 fsb) :)
