E6300 Temps - 6 readings - which is correct?

Hey,

Just got some kit for my bros Christmas present but obviously had to test it first :p

The specs are:
E6300
DS4
Geil 2GB PC6400 DDR2
Scythe Ninja Plus

The problem is that the core temp is reported to be so many different values that I might as well guess what it is. I know that the actual core temp from progs like TAT will be higher that the mobo reported temps but 10-15 degrees out seems way too much.

Here are the temps (@stock & idle):
Intel TAT: 43 43
Core Temp Beta: 42 42
Rightmark CPU Clock: 43 43
Speedfan: 28
Easy Tune 5: 29
Bios: 33

I have tried re-setting the cooler and did notice that the CPU is no where near flat so contact isn't very good but don't know what can be done to sort it out. Can someone please help me?

Cheers!

ive got that exact same spec and my idles without overclocking are around the 40-44'C mark on TAT + coretemp, will try speedfan l8er.

Took 2 reseatings to get that temp, however i think they could be @ least 5'C lower tbh with the ninja going by what other ppl seem to get, but im no expert so...

TAT is the only program I would trust to read my cpu temp as it reads directly from the core rather than the motherboard.

Thanks for the replies. I just ran TAT with full workload on only 1 core and the temps reported 65 degrees before I chickened out (don't want to break his Christmas present).

Surely something wrong here, the heatsink didn't even feel warm at the base and the hottest thing seemed to be the chipset heatsink which was only slightly warm. I've tried resetting the heatsink and keep getting roughly the same temps, Any recommendations?

Managed to get lower temps now, not sure if these are now 'normal' temps @stock & idle with a Huge heatsink but I hope so. All I did was reseat it yet again but spun the heatsink round to one of the other sides and got a load of luck as well as it seems to have done the trick :D

E6300 @stock - idle:

Load - 2x TAT 100% workload

Are those temps good enough? or is that what you would get with the stock cooler?

Thanks.

Stock cooler should be far better than that.

I was getting that load on a E6600 @ 2.8ghz

well im getting it with a ninja, i dont understand why it would be happening...

if i overclock some more im guessing the temps would go up, so that also means i cant raise the voltage if required, right?

cant possibly need reseating can it? would be the 3rd time ive done it.

lapping? the base of the ninja was perfectly smooth so that didnt seem to be a problem.

I also applied the AS5 exactly how it says on the instructions (and ive lost the tube, the things tiny).

im *** baffled

silly question, should the heatpipes around the MoBo be hotter than the heatsink for the CPU??

i ask as when i turned off my computer last night, the heatpipes felt quite hot, maybe the 50'C coretemp etc is showing. However the heatsink, after feeling as far under as i could get my fingers didnt feel as hot by quite a long way.

should these temps be similar? or as they are? have i buggered up sumwhere and done something i shouldnt have in the bios? the changes i have made are from here so...

thx for help folks :)

just installed Titan Quest and whacked all the texture etc options to high, played for 5-10mins (game crashed for some reason) and then took a screenie of temps, they dont seem to have changed much compared to the one i posted earier in the thread.

Hmm, when you take the heatsink off, the the thermal paste all spread over the core evenly?

Because, as both cores are hot, I think something is stopping it going all the way down as tight to the core as possible.

Use AS5 and a rice sized grain on the centre of the heat spreader and try again.

Use instructions here.

Get yourself some good AS5 compound and some good isopropylalchohol and give the cpu and hs a damn good clean, then follow the instructions here.
http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruct/as5/ins_as5_intel_dual_wcap.pdf
I did exactly as they described and two weeks in my compound has finnally set.

Im OC'd to 3GHz my idle temps are 43-36 celcius and 100% load on both cpu's approx 53-56 celcius.

thx guys, i am using the AS5, should i spread it evenly myself or just let the compression of the HS do that?

also, i dont supose vodka will do the trick instead of buying the alcohol shtuff?? :p

thx again folks, hope i get low idles eventually :)

AS5

Put a thin strip as shown on the AS site and let the compression do the trick.
VODKA  that should be drunk and not applied to the cpu, tell you what ;) you give me the vodka and ill give you some isopropylachohol :)

Have a good X-mas. :)

I've got the pc out from hiding again to see what can be done before it's finally wrapped up. I didn't realise other people with similar setups are having the same problem, granted this setup has improved slightly it doesn't seem enough. For others with the same problem I can only recommend checking the heatsink & cpus for any concave and making sure they line up then reseating them, I’d take this advice with a pinch of salt as it has helped but not enough.

After another reseating session the temps according to TAT are:
Idle - 33
Load - 55

These are the best results so far after many reseating and repositioning attempts but still seem way off, I’ve searched and found a few setups on stock cooling with an overclocked cpu getting better than this

I'd really like to get this setup the way it should be so it will work right out of the box, is there anything else that can be done?

Edit: The temps above are still @stock with scythe ninja cooling @ full fan speed. Just found out that the above is also with the mobo set to auto on voltage in the bios so it was undervolted to 1.2250v, more great news

hehe, was thinking of using a lemon @ first since that akasa cleaning shtuff is citrus based but thought better to be safe than sorry, with a burning lemony smell

going to have another reseating tonight i think see what magic christmas eve-eve can bring.

have a good crimbo too :D

*EDIT* just reseated again, still have low 50's C temps on idle

whats the vcore set to in the bios? if its set to auto is it undervolting like this one?

I'm thinking that maybe yours is running at a higher voltage to cause the high idle temps, apart from that I don't think continually reseating will do us much good :(
