E6300 vs QX6700

qx6700 in multithreaded games (not many out there), e6300 in all others... simple as :D

I'm not so sure, there are a few games out that have been updated to support mutlicore and I really can't see a great performance increase compared to using even a single core cpu, games wise I really feel that quad core is'nt going to offer a lot even in multithreaded games, I guess time will tell, since owning this E6300 my whole veiw point has changed.

if you want me to give you a few comparisons i dont mind.

i would have thought it would have been better to try the same cpu speeds?

im at 3.3Ghz on my QX6700, dont mind giving a few tests, you have a 8800gtx too i take?

ok just out of intrest, I've set my E6300 @ 2.6 which is as we know is the QX6700's stock speed, so we'll be comparing the two at the same speed (thats if you don't mind putting yours back to stock).

My 8800GTX is @ stock and the settings in the following games have been set to the max, AA, AF, Soft shadows etc the lot.

Forceware - 97.02

FEAR Performance test - Average 83fps (1680x1050)

CS Source Stress test - Average 220.46fps (1680x1050)

Farcry @ this point in the game - 61fps (1680x1050)

Oblivion - Very Dense forestry - 55fps (1600x900) note - I did'nt know how to force HDR & AA so this is with HDR but no AA, everything else maxed.

I think the only difference it will make in the near future is for Alan Wake, which uses the Quad core processor to create the extreme weather (Tornado) and HL2 Episode 2/3 as Valve are about to implement multicore support. One or Two cpu's will deal with the graphics, one for AI and one for Physics. But i don't know why for both of these games an Sli/Crossfire setup can't do the same?

As for speed in games now the basic (2.6 GHz +) Core Duo processors outperform the Quad core in most situations. But thats only because the Quad core has a lower clock speed.
