I have been asked to build a PC up for a mate, but it has been a long time since I last looked at PC hardware ;) I have a budget of 400 pounds max for the whole PC.

I am a bit confused about all this new pro Intel talk, as AMD have always been the winners in the past. Anyway, which would be a better CPU for a machine at my budget? Please take into consideration the money saved and put toward other components if the AMD was bought :)

Thanks!!

For the £20 you would save going AMD you are losing a hell of a lot of performance
You can get a e6300 C2D, SLI Mobo and 2x1Gig Ram for £350, this can easily hit 2.8Ghz with half decent cooling and as in my sig 3.4 or higher on water.

I advise going and doing some research, there's plenty of benchmarks on Anadtech, Toms Hardware etc that you can look at to get a better idea of their capability. Always best to do a bit of legwork yourself if it's a money-making decision.

I have a 400 pound max budget to get EVERYTHING, including graphics, case, hdds, optical drives etc.

I will do some more research :)

£400 for everything mmm

Think it may be a AM2 build then - let me see :/

Thanks for the spec, although I wasn't actually asking for one! Just wanted to know if the Intels were really that much better (worked it out to be 100 quid more for the E6300 over the 4200.

jongeeone - that spec is pretty much exactly the same as mine, cept I chose WD over Samsung ;) Great minds ey? Hehe

Thanks for the help guys
