Hi guys & gals!

I purchased just before crimbo the following from OcUK:

Gigabyte Ds3
e6300
Geil 800mhz 4-4-4-12 RAM (2gb)
Connect3D x1950xt - wow biggest bang for buck card i have purchased!!

Anyway,

After reading the DS3 OC thread in these forums I have managed to get a stable 2.8ghz with ease.

Im using the Akasa 52 heatsink with a 92mm fan. Im getting idle temps between 35-42 degrees & at full load around 53, is this normal for an overclock? or should i say acceptable?

Ps: all voltages are standard

Many thanks for reading, Oxymoron

3.2 should be acheavable a core temp of under 60 or so is reccomended but not 100% nessicery unless you're gonna keep the PC for a along time

Thanks for posting.....

....Im reluctant to OC any further until i glue a 60mm fan onto the northbridge heatsink.

One question, by only increasing the FSB to 450/470x7 & pci-e @ 100mhz, will these in theory be ok at a standard vcore of 1.25v?

Im reluctant to increase the volt as the idle temp increase hugely - approx 10 degrees ish higher.

Also my GeiL 800mhz 4-4-4-12 RAM why does it want to drop to like 533mhz at 470x7 FSB? Im at work so cant check figures until tonight unfortunately

Well looks good, atleast that means u run it faster than i do my 2,4ghzE6600 @ stock,i just ordered Artic freezer 7 for cpu and then i will try to do my first overclock aswell, i was just wndering if this Pal overclocked E63001.8ghz procesor to 2.8, its like 1 extra ghz! That means i could overclock mine 2.4 atleastt to 3.4,I think my mobo is new enought ,in that case 1 more question ! Will i realy see that much difference in games with my fps and stuff, and what is the max overclocked E6600 out there?

You wont really see a very big improvement in games, a couple of fps at most. You need to get something better than an x850xtpe if you want further improvement. However, you will see an improvement in older games where youd be getting 100+ fps anyway.

well i am waiting for R600 to be released, and when i wil get it, would it run games much faster with R600 @ 3.4overcloocked than @ stock 2.4Ghz ?

I agree with VeNT here. 3.2GHz with ease. I would be getting slightly worried if it started going anywhere above 60oC.

Yes, with high end graphics like that you experience heavy CPU bottlenecking. So even an overclock of 100MHz or so would give you a reasonable increase in performance. So an E6600 with a GHz overclock would give you a phenomenal boost.

I'm very disappointed with what I've bought and it's exactly the same as OP. BSoD's at 400x7 with 4-4-4-12 and 1:1, +0.3v and stock volts on the CPU. Can run small fft's into the sun but blend = dead. Is it my motherboard chipset or is it my RAM? Unwanted hassel tbfh. *never builds a computer again*

I have almost the same setup. I ran a 7 hour orthos yesterday, another one a few days ago all fine. I ran a blend today and it error'ed at 1 hour 30 minutes. I've put the SPD on defaults. I may sell this ram for some Corsair. It seems odd that it won't do stock volts.
