E6400 multiplier + DS3

The multiplier on my E6400 stays on x6 even after changing it in the BIOS. The fsb stays to whatever value I change it to but the multiplier doesn't. I have updated the DS3 bios to F3 but that didn't solve it. Any idea's?

PS - I got over 32,000 points on 3DMark 2001 with the E6400 @ 1.6GHz. My old P4 Prescott @ 3GHz got 17,000.

you sure its not just the fact that the multiplier is dropping when the CPU isn't at load?

can't remember what its called, but the equivalent to AMD's CnQ?

Is it called Speedstep or is that laptops?

If its is overheating it may be throttling

It's 38 degree's idle.

probably just speedstep coming into play.

try checking the multi when you have it loaded.

It's called EIST.

In a thread on ocforums.com there was someone asking a similair thing.
He noticed that his multiplier dropped to 6x at idle, and 8x at load.
Turned out he had EIST enabled in the BIOS.

EIST - which is clearly a good thing as it saves energy when the cpu is idling.
