Hi, i'm new here, i'm the Smorgasbord, hope you're all good :D

Does anybody know how far i could get my E6400 Conroe with an Arctic Cooler Pro Freezer 7??

I was gonna get a Q6600, but don't know if a quad would really benefit me.

I would like to get me E6400 up to 3GHz, possibly more, just wondered what people's experience with one of these babies was.

Most do 3.2-3.4GHz. They are most often RAM limited so make sure your RAM has plenty of headroom. You don't say what you want to do with it, but for Games a Q6600 probably won't be a lot faster than an E6400. For processor intensive stuff like video encloding though it'll demolish it.

The e6400 isn’t that bad, pc2-6400 ram will see you to 3.2ghz, if you have CL4 stuff I’m sure it will have even more headroom. That was the whole benefit of the e6400 over the e6300, an extra multi :)

I would have probably gone for one over my e6600 if it was actually out at the time. But then again my e6600 was a little stinker :D

Right, cheers guys, so i should be aiming at 3GHz easily from the sounds of it :D

By the way, i am gonna be using it for games, i just don't see an advantage in the E8400 that would make me pay for it, when i know that the E6400 could probably do good enough a job for me.

Got my e6400 to 3.3Gha with my geil at 830 but it fails orthos at anythign higher, thou I haven't had time to find out what's failing (mem / fsb / chip etc.) yet

Nice one! thought about getting a better cooler?

I have done but am worried about getting a bowed TRUE 120, which is really the only cooler I would consider, having had a Tuniq and a Big Typhoon in the past. Considering, when I have money, to dip into watercooling as I have only stuck to air up to this point (TEC's too, 10 years + overclocking) so its something I am interested in but will have to be when funds are permitting :p

Original ES i had a few weeks/months before retail release did 3GHz on stock, best one i had of personally 5 or 6 did 3.6Ghz on 1.4v
