Hi all,

I have clocked my E6400 from stock to 3Ghz but wow the temps are high! I'm using a zalmans HS/Fan (the big daddy)

Before I cleaned it out and reapplied HS Paste it was idle at around 55C  load was like 65!

Afterwards when clean and paste reapplied (artic silver 5) it still only dropped to around 51C idle 64C load!

I presume this is way to hot!

So I put it down to 2.4Ghz and its still idle around 50C and load 63C!

I can only assume its my case or I have maybe not got the HS on properly or is this the temps I shoudl expect?

Did you check the flatness of both the cpu and the hsf? I managed to get the load temps on my set up down by 20 degrees by lapping them both. My tuniq tower was so far from flat i couldn't believe it.

Erm, good point from what I could see when I put it back on it was flat maybe this is an issue but tbh the hsf screws down onto the braket which pushes it down so I can only assume it is hitting the CPU spot on

I'll have to re-seat it again to make sure. But yes its really hot and I'm wodering why :(

I take it you're using a small amount of AS5 on the hsf?

I placed a thin layer of paste to the CPU like I normally do, maybe its a little too much as I did tend to put a little less on last time.

Really can't be asked to take it apart again but I might have to :)

Thanks

My E6400 ran at 50 idle and 65 load under the stock cooler for over a year! No issues at all. Now its under and Artic Cooling F7 Pro at 3.2Ghz with temps of 40 idle and 55 load...

Interesting, at the moment mine idles at 50 and load 65, it don't seem to matter if I have it at 2.4 or 3Ghz the temps are always around the same.

these chips do run hot, i had 1 at 3.4 ghz using 1.65 volts. Under load it hit 80. Still i didnt mind to much about the heat. Use less volts and try to get it stable

Well I have run prime95 for long enough and i have also stressed it in games, I have seen a top temp of 69 and it all seems stable enough

This is at 2.4Ghz so I can only assume this is OK since its stable. I might try putting it to 3Ghz again and checking tmeps
