E6400 temps... too high?

I'm getting a bit confused about CPU temperatures at the moment... I'm running my E6400 at almost stock frequency (2.4GHz as opposed to 2.13GHz with VCore at 1.325V), but the temperatures are at around 45/46ºC according to the BIOS.

I've got 2 80mm exhaust fans at the rear and top of the case, 2 intakes at the front, a 120mm fan on the PSU, and an extra exhaust fan at the bottom which fits into a card slot. The CPU has an Freezer 7 Pro on it as well, so I shouldn't be getting temps that high at such a low clock should I?

The most confusing thing is that every program I've tried in XP gives me different readings:

BIOS - 45-46
ASUS PC Probe II - 41
SpeedFan - 36 (this is the same as the MB reading on PC probe)
Core Temp - 30-32

Which one can I trust? :(

What motherboard are you using? and are the temps you quoted under idle or load conditions.
The most accurate temp readings for the CPU are from Coretemp or TAT, seeing as coretemp is reading 30-32 that sounds OK. The other temps seem to be the motherboard temp which also seem to be around what I would expect.

My board is a P5B standard (not deluxe) and the temps I quoted were at idle.

Just downloaded TAT and fired it up... it's showing more or less the same temps as Core Temp plus a couple of degrees. I'd like to believe that it's right and the temp is that low, but with the BIOS saying it's almost 50 I can't help but be a little worried :p :o

Yup – updated it to 1202 earlier today.

50's nothing to worry about. Core 2's are quite happy running at 65 degrees. Infact rated with a maximum internal temperature of 85 degrees (or 65 degrees measured on the exterior casing of the processor).

My personal preference is to keep temps below 65, this gives a margin of 10 degrees 'comfort zone' for those hot sunny days (So max temp 75), while still keeping the processor well under the 'official' max temperature, incase the software measurements are incorrect.

I'd believe the TAT temperatures, and they are pretty decent. My system's tuned for 'Silence' and I get 60 degrees at full load, with my Core2 @ 3Ghz.

Yeah, I wasn't worrying about the temps themselves, more the fact that I was supposedly getting those temps at near stock frequencies.

Anyway, I'm just using Core Temp and TAT now. Getting 52-54 under full load in Orthos at 2880MHz and still pushing to see how far it can go :)

just been playing with my e6400 currently at 3.5ghz with 1.5 vcore, so far 10 mins orthos stable. Speedfan is 51c, coretemp is 60c, probe is 51c

Cant run TAT get error about enumerating on demand flippity flop
