Hey guys, i have overclocked my E6420 to 3.2Ghz (400 FSB) 1.45 Volts and running the Memory at 800Mhz 3-3-3-12 2.25 Volts, evertyhing is fine.

Specs in Sig.

Now the max FSB i can get the computer to post at is 423, anything higher than this, it will just not post at all.

I have just been reading the overclocking sticky again, the part where it saids to determine the max FSB, lower your multi to find this out. So i lowered the Multi to 6 and began working my way up. I get to 423 everything is ok as soon as i change it to 424 and restart it and it just wont post. Am i right in thinking thats the Motherboard thats causing this? That will be a real shame if it is, i know that the ASUS P5B Deluxe can go much higher than that.

Hope you guys can help.

I doubt its the motherboard but you could add a little more vNB just in case. It could also be the memory topping out so again add more vDimm and relax the memory timings.

There also seems to be some 'black holes' on the FSB so sometimes you need to 'leapfrog' past them, so in your case instead of going 423MHz >> 424MHz you should instead leapfrog ahead to something like 430/435MHz.

I have read about certain CPU's having an FSB wall where they won't boot above a particular FSB but never encountered one myself.

Thanks for the reply Wayne. I have added a bit of vNB still no diffrence. Also about the Memory i have actully had the Memory running at 1000MHZ 4-4-4-12 stable so i dont think its that.

I have also skipped past 424, i have tried 430, 435, 440 and so on still no diffrence.
