I am currently running an E6420 @2.92GHz and am thinking of upgrading to something better.

I hear that a dual core is better for gaming and a quad is better for graphical oftware and as i do both gaming and 3d CAD design I was wondering if there is a "best of both worlds".
 
Think thers some confustion there, dual are slighly better in the gaming dept so if you were a harcore gamer you may choose dual core. if you do CAD work amd multi media a quad would serve you better but will still game with out any probelms and were talking minamal diff like for like
 
Is a 4ghz dual core going to be noticeable faster than his current 2.9ghz e6420 in real world performance? Seems to me that upgrading would be a waste of time and money.
