E6420

Well intel say it is not safe to go above 1.58 iirc. There is also rumours of 'fuses' blowing on the cpu which dont damage the cpu but intel will then know it has been above the voltage threshold and will void the warranty. How much truth is in that I couldn't say.

I run my E6600 with 1.6v 24/7 and have not had a problem (on top end water) but I wouldn't 'advise' anyone to do the same - going above spec always has risks m8 and no-one can tell you what is safe. It all depends on how brave(stupid) you are and if you can afford to replce the chip should it fry.

It might be worth looking into exactly what the 'actual' vcore is rather than the vcore you set.

My ECS(EVGA) board undervolts by about .05v so 1.6v is actuall 1.55:D

where do you find the info about Intels max adviced voltage through the core? any idea on the max a E2140 would take for 24/7 usage under a Noctura?
