Hi all

First time post. I'm considering swapping my Core 2 Duo E6550 for a Core 2 Quad Q6600 and wonder if the stock HSF setup I got with the E6550 will be okay for the Q6600? I bought the retail CPU retail box. I will be overclocking it but not outrageously - without fitting any special HSF hopefully. Which brings me to my second question;

I considering this upgrade specifically for ripping blu-rays to HDD for watching on my media centre. It takes ages at the moment and if I coudl shave an hour or two off that it would be good. As this processor is CPU dependent is E6550 to Q6600 a worthwhile upgrade? I'm hoping to pay about £90 on ebay for one - can't really afford anything else.

thanks,
Iain

The 65nm quads have a larger copper core on the stock cooler compared to the dual cores if I remember right. But as long as the temps arnt excessive it should be ok. I think the quads cooler is taller as well. But regardless if the temps are good then all is fine :P
