Got my E6600 to just under 3.2GHz yesterday. The person I bought it off had it running easily at 3.6GHz although I am having problems. Anything over what it's on now produces a blue screen when booting Windows so I'm guessing some voltage tweaking needs to be done, yes?

Currently, the only changes I've made to the BIOS are to increase the FSB and disable Speedstep.

I am using an Asus P5K SE mobo and 2GB OCZ Reaper Edition PC9200 1150mhz DDR2

Features of this RAM:
- 1150MHz DDR2
- CL 5-5-5-18
- OCZ Lifetime Warranty
- 2.3 Volts
- Reaper HPC Heatsink*
- 2.35V EVP**

I'm guessing that the 2.35 Extended Voltage Protection could come in handy? :)

What timing is better? It's currently at 5-5-5-15.

I'm not sure what the CPU:RAM ratio is.

Can provide more information after 1:30 when I get home.

You'll need to up the vcore to over 1.4 to get 3.6ghz. I have an E6600 running at 3.6ghz with my vcore set to about 1.425.

I'd be careful with temperatures as well, especially in this warm weather we're getting. Mines running quite toasty despite having a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme cooling it.
 
What cooling was the guy from whom you bought the CPU using? Air, or water? If it was water you aren't likely to match it.

Also, as stated above, you'll need to up the vcore to get to the higher clocks.

As for timings - I would find the CPU limits before you start fine-tuning memory performance.
 
I can bench at 3.3ghz, but stable at 3.2ghz... you'll maybe need to up the volts, as your board can certainly take the higher speeds, it's whether your cooling is good enough.

Once you've found that stable over clock, ramp up the ram bandwidth with 1200mhz with extra volts, or use the volts to decrease the timings... I'm running 8GB of OCZ PC6400 which is 5-6-6-18 ram at 5-3-3-12 ;)

with the e6600 i used to have, i needed 1.525 vcore in bios, memory unlinked to achieve 3.6ghz. mobo was an evga 680ia1. temps at load were about 58 degrees using an arctic freezer 7 pro.
 
are you sure you might not also need to vdroop mod or something your board? you could most likely be using different boards to what the previous owner used...
 
Was it bought off the MM, a friend or the bay?

Did the original owner tell you what voltage he'd used?

I'd agree that 1.45v would be what i'd expect you'd need for 3.6ghz.

I'm 8 hours prime stable at 3.42GHz (380*9) at 1.4v bios (1.34ish in CPUZ) if that's any help to anyone. I'm using a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme for cooling.

I can boot at 3.6GHz with the same vcore but orthos fails after about 6 seconds lol

My VID is 1.25 and B2 stepping, I'll look into getting 3.6GHz stable in a minute and report back.
 
Mine needs 1.38v for 3.6Ghz (9x400 or 8x450), done the pencil volt mod on my P5E, temps are low 20's idle and mid-high 30's while gaming and mid-high 40's running Prime. CPU is a SL9ZL L702C486 and i reckon it's still got more to give. Just can't be bothered trying at the moment as it does everything i ask of it.

I would manually input the Vcore. You may need to increase the NB and FSB termination voltages too and may have to play with CPU and NB reference voltages and CPU PLL (but not more than 1.7v) if your board has them.
 
Yeah the L702C's can do 4GHz but they require 1.6V+ to do so, still pretty impressive for a B2 stepping though :)
 
I gave up trying on mine tbh. Needs serious voltage.

3.2 is still plenty tho, even these days. Current rig is the best value for money pc I ever built, even tho it was expensive at the time..
