Hi and merry christmas all.

Ive bought an E6600 and a Asus P5B motherboard, the chip was retail so i thought id just use the stock cooler. Its never going to be over clocked, and probably not stressed as much as others, will the stock cooler do? Or should i look into getting a 3rd party one?

If so, what one is a good buy? Its either going in a Lian Li V2000B or Super LanBoy if i just keep my old case. Unsure if i shall get the Lian Li just yet, its huge and dont know if my wires will fit (HyperR 580w PSU)

Thanks :)

the stock coolers on C2D's are fine, not noisey at all.

Yeah stock is fine, small and quiet
Two people both saying that they are quiet cOOlers . . .

Are they actually quiet? or do both of you play in a heavy metal band and have 12 x 120mm Vantec Tornados installed in your systems? :D

Yeah stock is fine, small and quiet, but it's useless if your going to overclock :)
Its not that bad for overclocking.
I've got my E6600 @ 3.2Ghz on the stock cooler, whilst I await my Freezer pro to arrive. Its fine.

As for noise, the stock cooler is surprisingly quiet. The only time its been loud for me is when I'm running Orthos and the cpu is under 100% load.

As with all PC components from all manufacturers, some die. There are some horror stories about. I've got 2 in my PCs and have fitted 3 others - they're all the same as the day they went in and give excellent stability on the V rails.

In the end, you get what you pay for - Tagans etc are better, but then they cost more.

Ive had Tagan or Enermax most of my computing life, change to the HyperR as it was a good price, and modular. Seems to me working OK for me, and temps for it never go above 50c.

Im insured on the house insurance, so if it blows i get a new pc :)

its a sad fact that a lot of people who bought hiper 580rs approx 16-18months ago have had a high failure rate.
i had mine rma ed
put the new one in my son's pc, must have been a batch issue
sad but true

like ive said on here b4 my son was sitting next to my pc when it happened-on a humorous note it screeched like a banshee then went off -fortunately just the psu
since confidence counts for a lot i wouldnt buy another one, not for me anyway :D :D :D
