e6600 constant high usage under vista 64bit

Hi All,

Had my e6600 for a while now however it is always running around 50 - 100% most of the time.

Is this normal for this processor? I have a fairly good spec machine which scores 5.4 under the Vista performance test but theprocessor goes to 100% far too easy and stays there for a while.

Got the following spec

E6600 + zalman cooler
4gb geil ram 800mhz stuff
4 * sata 2 drives 2 *2 mirrors.
Creative fatality soundcard
Radeon 1950 xtx
abit aw9d -Max

Just doesn't seem right, my old AMD 4400 used to perform better or at least I think it used too.

I haven't got too many apps running in the background either.

Which process is using all the CPU?

Well Itunes is guilty when that's running but I know their is a compabability issue their.

When it's not running their seems to be several SVChost processes going which seems to do it.

I know there are no malicioous programs running on my machine, Vista has been like this since day one with this CPU.

Admittedly I'm on a Q6600, but I've got a monitor for each core in the gadgets sidebar and typically they're all on 1-5%.

I use the dual CPU widget which is pretty handy, majority of the time it's pretty maxed out.

Anyone else seeing similar things with one of these chips and 64bit Vista. I can't believe performance can be so bad seeing as everyone was raving about this processor a few months back.

Vista 64 runs just fine on my E6420, cpu normally 0-5% when the system isnt doing much, and I've only got 2Gb memory in the system atm.

Sounds like you've got a start-up application conflicting.

Disable all your start-up items in MSCONFIG (other than Microsoft Windows Operating System) and see if it stops. If it does, re-able them one at a time til you've found out which is the cause.
