Hi there lads ive had this pc for 3 years now and all of a sudden its become a nightmare. its an e6600 2.4ghz
the cpu tempurature is running way to hot nearly at its max when its idle i no very little about this subject but using the real temp 3.00 there running at around 88 to 90 degrees with a max of 92.
As i said i no very little about this and dont no if it is even normal i take it as a no as my computer has been turning off a lot etcetc.

The thing is i havent at any time overclocked the computer i have looked at doing it but never bothered.
The pc has been fine until i purchased a new monitor which a ran at a lot higher resolution then what i was running at previously.
I wondered if this could be a factor or possibly the fan has had it(it is still running)? I have opened my computer up and had a little clean etc but other than that i have done nothing.

wondered if any of you lads could give me some pointers or is it a case of new fan and heatsink or w/e ?

Many Thanks

Firstly open up the pc again, turn it on and check that the cpu fan is still working, they can, and do, fail over time. Give the innards a thorough clean with a can of compressed air or a small 1" paintbrush and clean as much dust and contamination out as possible. Remove the cpu heatsink's fan if possible and clean between the heatsink fins. If there was a lot of dust, restart and check temps again.
If the cpu fan is working ok and the case is now reasonably free of dust, check the security of the cpu heatsink. If loose, remove it, reapply some thermal grease and reseat the heatsink ensuring that its securely attached and making good contact with the cpu.
Sounds to me like your cpu fan has failed though so check this first.:)

I've had the same problem with my E6300 for the past few weeks, so I finally got around to taking my machine apart and getting rid of all the dust. I then just cleaned the CPU and heat sink with some TIM cleaner and applied some new thermal paste and my temperatures halved :).

I give my PC a good clean every 3 months, remove and re-seat everything including removing the heatsink/fan from the cpu and applying a new dab of thermal paste. This always brings the temps back down a few degrees and is well worth doing. Let us know how you get on...
