E6600 + G.SKILL 6400 DDR2 HELP...

Hi all.

Atm with the rig in my sig i am currently running the cpu @2.7ghz(1.35v)..(fsb 300x9) and multiplier ups the ddr2 mhz upto 900mhz(2:3)..([email protected]) as its linked.

Temps are good under an orthos stress test for half an hour..(41/41'c max no errors..) and i know that on stock volts with an arctic freezer pro 7 this e6600 will easily do 3.0ghz on stock volts.

The thing is i cant unlink the fsb and ram timings with this mobo so if i up the fsb to 334x9 which of course would give me 3.06ghz on the cpu and ddr mhz of over 1000mhz(2:3) the system will not boot up.

If i drop the ram speed to ddr667 then i get ddr mhz at around 817 and using the multiplier above(334x9) to set the cpu to 3.06ghz will let me boot into windows fine etc.

Hope this makes sense so far and my main question is does running the ram @dd667(4:5) @817mhz make it slower than say running the ram at its rated speed of ddr800(2:3) at the same frequency 817mhz for example.

Or to get the ram running @ddr800(2:3) with the fsb 334x9 which will give me a ram speed of just over 1000mhz would i need to up the ram volts a notch or slacken my timings to the default spd of 5.5.5.15?

Hope some of that made sense as ive been trying to put this one into words since ive had this system for a short while.

This is the memory i have http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-013-GS

Hope someone can help.

Ok thanks for the response will prob notch ram volts upto 2.2 if needed.

On the page on ocuk in the review bit one guy said @stock volts with 5.5.5.15 he got 1050 mhz no probs so will give that a whirl first.

Hmm when i try to run it @around ddr1000mhz..(334x9..ddr800..2:3..@1000mhz) it wont even go into the bios so i have to cmos clear and re-load my saved normal settings from the bios.

Ive read somewhere awhile ago though that this mobo does not like going over 1000mhz with ram frequency.

Do you think id be better off with a higher cpu [email protected] and ddr667 4:5 speed @835mhz(334x9)...or a higher ram speed running @ ddr800 2:3 @900mhz and cpu @2.7ghz..(300x9) as both these settings run fine and are stable.

Thats the simple choice i need to make..higher cpu clock lower ram speed or higher ram speed lower cpu speed?.

Which do you think would be better.

Thanks.

Ah thanks for clearing that up.

It came when i bought it was pre-clocked @3.06ghz @ddr677 4:5 @835mhz and since ive played about with it thinking i should run @ddr800 speeds not ddr667 but its the mhz thats the speed at the end of the day.

Thanks for the advice and will stick to that. :)
