right now im getting 58/60 idle and 70/75/76 load! using orthos to stress and tat to watch, and according the cpuz and everest my cpu core v is at 1.41v (3.4ghz)

I have a Scythe Infinity cooler with a Xilence XPF120R Red Wing on it, in an akasa eclipse with the filter taken out to improve airflow. I also have 2 raptors and 1 of them new seagate barracudas.

I have tried reseating it so many times but am getting nowhere :mad: , i really want to fix this before summer, Do any of you have any solutions?? which doesnt involve water cooling, maybe a fan controller could speed the fans up a bit??

also this is how i apply my thermal paste, I have tried loads of different ways but this seems to work the best

 
I dont know if its just me or not, but just by looking at that picture, it looks like the cpu may be concave, there is a test u can do to determine if it is.

best way to solve a concave cpu would be to give it a good lapping(sounds kinky :p ) :D

Dont take my word for this yet :)
 
Is the paste spread evenly across the cpu and heatsink when you remove it?

If it's concave the paste won't be spread out evenly.
 
Have you tried using the stock cooler? Are temps bad with that too? If so then I'm afraid you most likely have a concave IHS and the only solution to that is lapping it.
 
Stock cooler is no better, if i can remember rightly, i only lost a thew c with the infinity.

I will take the heatsink off again tommorow and give u a thew pics. Could i not just send it back to ocuk or intel and get it replaced? if it is concave that is

I have a Scythe Ninja and while the temps were reasonable they werent what I expected to get from a good cooler. I had a look at the base and found in one direction it was perfectly flat but in the other the edges were raised. I lapped the base and the temps dropped by 6c. It might be worth just checking the base of your hsf and the flatness of the ihs.

You will not get a refund if the IHS is not flat, the CPU still works and just beacuse the temps are high when overclocked is not a reason.
 
i dont think lapping would bring that down the amount that you probably should
what temp do other diagnostics say it is??
mine runs a damn sight lower clocked at 3150
but its on stock volts
 
I think you use far too much AS5. Seems fairly uniform but far to thick.

Try and use a 1/3 of what you have previously.

Lapping the cpu will help as all Heat spreaders are less than flat.

That is WAY too much AS5. Clean it well and put one small blob the size of a grain of rice in the middle, thats all you need. Remember the parts which get hot are in the middle not the outside.

another sugestion is to lower your vcore slightly my e6700 is running at 3.1ghz on stock volts and perfectly stable idle 35 degrees load mid 40s thats on water tho but with the stock cooler i never saw temps like that at standard or slight overclocks, edit, m vcore is at 1.3 volts stable, the chips are rated at 1.35
 
tried. they all give the same results. anyway iv change my cpucore v to 1.3 and have kept the OC at 400x8 (3200) with a fsb/dram ratio of 4:5, temps right now 48/50.

Its a shame as lots of people with my cpu are getting 3.6 with better temps.

I wonder if watercooling would sort this, i can see me spending 200 or so on a full watercooling setup, with no difference in temps, which would seriously f me off
