No it is'nt correct. All 775 mobo's will not take all 775 cpu's. In your case though both are compatible. Which E6600? The old 65nm Core2Duo or the new 45nm Pentium dual core? If it's the new one you will need to flash to bios 1203 or later.
that should work on your mobo. flashing is easy you can do it with a program in windows.
In other words = DOH!!! Never flashed bios before and don't think I would want to risk it on my missus pc as too much precious stuff (kids pictures etc) on there.

Asus windows bios flashing software is notoriously bad and has left many people with a useless board.
OP. Download the latest bios and put it on a USB stick. On bootup hit Alt + F2 and flash using EZ-Flash.
