Today i tested my new E6600 and it ran nicely @ 3.6Ghz (1.341Vcore)

I thought id test to see if would go higher and it looks like its gonna take a lot more Vcore so for now I tryed to set it back to 3.6Ghz (1.341Vcore)

Only now i run Orthos and it fails everytime within 3minutes   what could be wrong !!

Hi Sipha,

In your other thread you said you had 3.6 @ 1.431v not 1.341v.

Think that may be your problem fella.

And don't worry... i didn't see it for ages either mate! ;)

Always write down what stable settings you have so you are sure when you revert them after an unstable overclock that they are correct. Looks like you are gonna have to start from scratch again.

It was definatley 1.431 sorry made a typo there, sadly :(

More concerning tho now is that I have major problems even booting up, I've had to clear the Bios via the 2pins on the motherboard to get it to even show the boot screen with standard settings, otherwise it would just turn and stay there witha blank screen

What have i done :(

Thanks for the help guys its appreciated :)

Try pulling the bios battery for a little while. That will definately clear everything. Check that the cooling solution's not on too tight - i have heard that DS3's plus tuniq's can have some negative effects when clamping down as they can bend the board slightly.

Apart from that i wouldn't know... the bios reset should be forcing everything to stock.

You don't have a peripheral that's causing problems do you?

I used to have a Razer Copperhead that wouldn't allow my pc to post if it was plugged in! Firmware update of the mouse sorted that but it was a real head scratcher to begin with i can tell you!

The problem with it not booting up properly now appears to be after I push the FSB upto 400 for 3.6 Ghz before this its fine and boots no problem.

Thats called pushing an overclock too far and reseting the cmos to clear your dodgy settings. You have done nothing wrong m8 - every overclocker will have done this (I still do from time to time when I get over ambitious!).

If you are having trouble booting into windows then up the vcore in small increments until you can or lower the fsb - then stress test some more until you stabilise your setup. Its worth noting that you might also need to raise your NB chipset voltage slightly as you increase the fsb.

Have you got your memory on a divider?

Yeah it seems so matey, the only problem is that earlier today when i first installed the chip I ran it @ 3.8 Ghz no problems it wouldnt run Orthos for very long but it still posted.

3.6 @ 400FSB 'WAS' stable now it wont even post @ 400FSB :S

Have i broken somthing lol !

My memory is set at x2 in the Bios so running as standard 800Mhz @ 3.6Ghz, also (FSB Voltage @ +2v) (gMCH @ +2v) (vdimm +3v) (PCI-E +1v)

Thanks
Si

Btw I'm running @ 399FSB at the moment, and no problems whatsoever.

jus had a similar wobble with my e6600 when swapping round my gfx card. was rock @ 3.3ghz and then suddenly it wouldnt post even after numberous reset and turon on/off's...

working now but failed orthos but now passing orthos:!

Just tryed running Orthos at 399FSB, 3.59Ghz. Ran for about 4 minutes then i got a BSOD !

REbooted and it said 'Invalid boot disk failure' or similar. So i pulled the power, reset the Bios and all is well again, touch wood.

Could it be possible that the new CPU is faulty atall, I had no such problems with the E6400 ?

Thanks all
Si

I've just had a traul through some old posts and found this, sounds remarkably similar to the problems I'm encountering with a similar setup.

Could this be the problem ?, I guess it has only started happening since I intstalled my new CPU, I'm off to loosen up my Tuniq :p

Well done Gt matey, I think you've sorted the problem :D

Great stuff mate! Was worried it was borked but as w3bbo said 'if it was really broken it wouldn't be posting... let alone clocking'! ;)

What's it clocking like now? Back to normal?

Glad you got it back up and running pal! :D

Hmm no such lusk sadly :(

Problems have intermintently and steadily got worse, I cant even boot into windows at ANY clock now without getting a BSOD.

I mate.

some weeks ago,I change my cpu cooler two times in a few days( first a coolermaster and then a TT 120)
so i made a lot of " handling" of the hardaware ( board ,mems, etc.) and allways in a hurry (I´m a little beat impatiente, when i have my machine down)

anyway: i do not now why ,but suddenly, one day after the last change, i started to see some instability in the sistem, reboots and BSOD

I´m amazed, because the sistem is rock solid before :o
so i tested the memory, and i have one of the Ram sticks " dead"( lots of errors in less than 5 minutes )

So after thinking a while,I realized that I killed it with a static discharge of my hands
I´m lucky, because Crucial change my Ram kit in a few days (RMA) :)

Your problem sounds very similar to the one I had
My advice: do a memtest86 :)
