e6600 oclk newbie question

Hi I need some help please, Im new to overclocking the max I could overclock my intelc2d e6600 2.4 was to 2.7!!!.

I see people who have overclocked it to 3.8!!!!

How did they overclock it to 3.8 or even just 3.0!!!? im new to overclocking, what do I need to buy so that I can do it. I can only overclock to 2.7 then system crash using easytune 5/bios.

People who have overclocked that processor -What are your computers specs? as I want to get them(aspire to anyway lol)- Mine are:


CASE: AKASA ZEN MIDI ATX IVORY WITH 2 SILENT 12CM FANS AT FRONT AND REAR.
PSU: HIPER 580W PSU
CHIP: INTEL CORE2DUO E6600 2.4GZ
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA945P-S3 Socket 775 FSB 1066mhz
GRAPHICS CARD: NVIDIA GEOFORCE 7900GS WITH 512MB DDR 3 MEMORY, OVERCLOCKED USING NVTRAY
MEMORY: 2 GIG DDR2 DUAL CHANNELED 533MHZ SPEED, BOTH KINGSTON AND DELL (NOT SURE OF MAKE)
MONITOR: 17" DELL FLAT PANEL
SOUND: DELL 5.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM, 5 SPEAKERS AND SUBWOOFER.
OPERATING SYSTEM: WINDOWS XP MC EDITION 2005

before you do all this i would have a read of the sticky on overclocking for beginners in the overclocking section. It's good to have an idea what you are doing when you fiddle with the bios settings.

BTW the text colours in your post make it very difficult to read without highlighting it. Stick with white - nice and easy to read.

The Culprit is MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA945P-S3 Socket 775 FSB 1066mhz


You need a 965 chipset to get decent clocks as most near enough all 945 chipsets max out at 300 FSB.

That just aint a overclocking mobo.

I suggets getting a 650i of DS3 instead.
