Only benefit you'd likely to get from the E6700 would be if you were under phase and aiming for 4.3GHz+. Unfortunately as things stand with the current crop of motherboards it might be a while before we have ones that guarantee over 400FSB+.

I've got a E6700 ES and unless I get a pretty stonking overclock out of it I'll be selling it and buying an E6600 retail!
 
I also had to make this decision.
I hadn't done a major upgrade for a while so I was going to "splash the cash" so to speak and get the 6700.
However there is approx. a £150 difference in price and that £150 covers your motherboard and gives you a little bit towards any new RAM you may also need.

Also with just how clockable these CPU's are (I run my E6600 at 3Ghz - and this is a rather pathetic overclock compared to many) I'm in effect running my £250 CPU as a £720 X6800.
