e6600 or go e8400 or quad?

hi
would i see any diff by going to e8400? or should i go quad?
i mostly play games...

Yes most definitely! I moved from an E6600 overclocked to 3.4ghz to an E8400 overclocked to 4.1ghz and it was quite noticeable. If your priority is games then the E8400 will fit the bill.

thanks for the votes.. will order e8400 know...

many thanks..

p.s will post results when installed..

:D hehe..

with the e6600 i tried to find max fsb on the rampage formula 550+ i stop at 550  chicken'd out....

when i bought it i paid about £160. for it.. might get £50-£60? for it problem is its lapped..

Hummmm...Very difficult if you have erased the information off the top of the heat spreader. If it is a boxed product and you have the original box and its cooler, then that may help you prove its authenticity. I just sold mine on fleabay for £63. It had not been lapped though!

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place, lapping would give me better temps yet if I do come to selling the chip it's going to be even harder to get a decent ammount for it :(

I think you may be dissapointed by your "upgrade". It's more of a sidestep really. A E6600 at 3.6Ghz is no slouch and you will only see a minimal improvement. I had a E8500 and even at 4.2Ghz it was'nt much faster than the E6600 i have now. 3DMark06 for example, only gave the Wolfdale an extra 588 marks over the E6600. You just don't need a 4Ghz cpu to play any current games.

I am quite surprised at your small improvement in 3DMark06 when moving from an E6600 @ 3.6ghz to an E8400 @ 4.2ghz. Is that with the same graphics card(s) and motherboard?

When I upgraded from the same E6600 @ 3.6ghz to my current E8400 @ 4.1ghz, my 3DMark06 jumped from 15,200 to 18,002 that is on the identical systm of an EVGA 780i and SLi BFG 8800GT OC2.

the volts needed to run 3.6 is 1.5v no matter how many volts i put through it is no go past 3.6 no matter what the divider.. plus i won't upgrade to neleham (spelling?) till the end of next year.. but i will be getting the new ati card when they come out.

He's only on about his cpu score..

Your gfx will be limited by cpu clock's at 3.6, and thus you would be unleashing more of their potential...

The difference of 3.6 ghz and 3.9ghz for me was 2k in my 3dmark score, but only 300 on my cpu score...

2k really i get about 13,500 know...

plus i can use the e6600 and build a media pc got spare motherboard and everthing

I had a good go at compared my old E6600 to my new E8400 in a few games. I wasn’t interested in bench marks just purely FPS improvements in game, unfortunately my E8400 running at 4.5GHz really didn’t make much difference to my gaming experience, I guess my old E6600 clocking at 3.6GHz simply wasnt a bottleneck at all in gpu limited games. Also saw no difference with the Q6600 but one great advantage I saw with the quad was the ability to play games, encode media and even leave my avg on without a tiny hiccup in game. Hence why my Q6600 system is my main rig now.

i see what you mean but in future games in the end of the year and into next year, there will be better gfx cards out that will need a meater cpu to get the most out of them. as i won't be upgrading till the end of 09. Because when the nehelem comes out cost/untested motherboards, i'll wait till there is a good range of motherboards/cpu's to pick from. learnt my lesson when i bought a p5n-t deluxe.. the max fsb was 450 for that board. Crashing all the time then one day it just stopped working so rma it and got the rampage formula.
