hey there.

ok iv just popped my amd 4400x2 which was at 2.9ghz at 1.75v (lol)

and i just got a E6600 and a asus p5w dh dulux mobo and 2gb of geil cas 4-4-4-12 ram. and the results are unbeleiveable!

at stock speeds it laughs at my old amd.

how ever my question is, how much more of a speed boost would i get from if i overclocked to 3ghz with my E6600?

and would it be worth going to 3ghz?

and if so, how much faster would super PI be etc? (at the moment my 1m pi is 18seconds)

and how much more heat would it throw off? (currently idles 28c with sycthe ninja without a fan) (but i could easily put fan on if i need to)
and it full loads at 40c

Heres some quick results i got when i first built my pc as sig compared to my old amd64 :)

Super Pi 1 million v1.5

Amd64 4000 @ 3ghz - 27s
Intel e6600 conroe 2.4ghz - 21s
Intel e6600 conroe 3ghz - 16s

Cinebench

Amd64 4000 @ 3ghz - 49s
Intel e6600 conroe 2.4ghz - 31s
Intel e6600 conroe 3ghz - 24s

Seriously kids - don't drink and overclock ;)

Lol Iceshock, you just wanted to kill your 4400 just so you could go Conroe :p I know what you mean about the hangover too, my stomach feels decidely fragile. It would be faster than a 6800 at stock yes but only by 70MHz!

Put the fan on that Ninja and go nuts. Follow the usual o/c rules of raising the speed by increments, stress testing and monitoring temps every step of the way. Anything up to 3.6Ghz is pretty standard as long as your mobo is capable of a 400fsb.

As a rule keep vcore below 1.6v, (1.55v is usually enough), and max temp below 70c when stressing both cores 100%.

Btw, 14.175s Superpi 1M is my best time @ 3.6Ghz
