E6600 running to hot!

Yes the core 2 duo's have mixed results it seems
i think people are lying when they say they are 40c under load
on any heatsink.

high end water and a lapped e6600 with low volts gets you these temps under load.....and no lying ;)

I am running my c2d E6600 water cooled and the idle temps are 45-50c and under load about 65-68c does this seem a little high to you guys on water.

Is it overclocked? If not, that's very high. I have a low-end twin 120mm water cooling system and my E6400 idles at 42 and maxes out at 64 under load. With a semi-passive Thermalright HR-01 it idles at 42 and maxes out at 56C but that doesn't cool the Northbridge or the graphics card, so I'm happy enough.

yes i thought i was the only 1! Idle with my window open 45/47, 50/55 window closed

can get to 67/68 on load, i can see this being a massive problem once summer hits, specialy if we have heatwaves like last years! Im thinking of lapping

What temps do you get after an hour of Gromacs or an hour of small FFTs? I can do Blend at 53C, but Gromacs gets me up to 10C more!

Don't you just knock the overclock down to stock?

with great airflow in my case time is irrelevant really, small FFT's load at 45-46c max with just 3 yate loons on my PA120.3 ...if i turn my 97cfm xinruilians as well you can take another 3-4c off this figure....high fft's generally sit a few degrees lower than small.

of course with the window open and a nice breeze i can prime/orthos small FFT below 40c easily with just the 3 yate's....get's a touch cold in the room tho :)

i've never used gromacs.

im running a V lower than default. Even with 2.4ghz. I will still get the same sort of temps.

That's certainly counter-intuitive. If you maintain that voltage and drop the CPU speed, your temperatures don't drop?

Why does everyone use Orthos instead of TATs CPU loading tool? Whenever I run Orthos I always get lower load temps than I get when I do 100% on both cores with TAT.

TAT doesn't work with all chipsets.

orthos is just a stabilty test and works the cpu at about 80%

TAT, tests your cpu at 100% and this is purely to test how hot it gets

Well, I could put two deltas on my radiators, turn the aircon down to 12C and it would run cooler, but it would be intolerable. Under normal room temperature conditions using the same fans and speeds as the ones in the original screenshot what does the Orthos Gromacs test show once the temperature stabilizes? I've just noticed that Small FFTs and Gromacs run higher on my system and I was interested in what it did on yours.

Like you, my system stabilizes after a couple of minutes, but even so, the temperature differences can be see clearly;

That's why I asked about what happens on your system with Gromacs and Small FFTs - Blend doesn't seem to give me the highest thermal stress on the cooling system. Small FFTs does.

And just in case anyone thinks I wasn't giving them time to recover;

Large FFTs

So that would also bear out Marscays findings that Large FFTs runs cooler than Small FFTs.

i meant that it doesnt matter if i've been priming for 20 mins or 11 hours ....my max small FFT is about 45c-46 but usually averages a few degrees cooler. i've got a mountain mod ufo case so airflow and exhaust is about as good as it gets.

Like i said previously :) this only with the 3 yate loons, if i turn on my xinruilians which are much stronger you can take another 3-4c off those figures. This is with the window closed btw so no external help....i don't know what the ambient is but warm enough for me to wear t-shirts all the time :)

Yes i agree small FFT's load the system more than blend on avg ...but there's some high fft's which generate just as much heat as the smalls too. Run blend long enough and you will see them. Small FFT's builds up a longer heatload than blend on avg but i still prefer blend to test for overall stability (11hrs+) as it doesn't just focus on one area.

Ive got my E6600 on the P5B Deluxe currently idling at 46c, full load and it goes to around 54c.

I have poor cooling, waiting for new fans that seem to be taking an age :( Its on the stock retail cooler as well.
