E6600 Stepping help

I think the SL9S8 would be the more desirable* chip, pretty shocked that people are saying they can't reach 3.6GHz?

*Cooler running, slighty better overclock.

Yes you did begin to 'waver' a little ;)

I was on a different wavelength I thought you may be sitting next to him or perhaps you sold him the chip . . .

ZZZzzzzz

My E6700 arrived last week: it's an SL9S7 from week 34A

Upon checking Intels website it would appear to have a similar spec to that E6600 identified above - T-Diode enabled and the higher extended halt power of 22w.

So from that can I assume I have the most desirable revision of the E6700? ...what about the week...is 34A a goodun?

Just out of interest, I know there seem to be 2 revisions of most of the core-duo range, but which ones came first, are the more desirable ones we're talking about here the most recent revisions, or have intel crippled them after the initial great reviews? (maybe I'm just being cynical for thinking like that :D - but nothing would suprise me...)

The early ones were the best overclockers as they were all somehow 'defective' X6800's that had failed one or other tests and been speed-binned into a lower classification. Once they got the manufacturing refined, then things slackened off. Weeks 27-29 from the B plant seem to be the best of the best from what I can tell, but every so often someone will pop up with a real beauty from another batch. It's a total lottery.

The true Allendale E6300 and E6400 chips (ones actually produced as 2Mb cache chips) run hotter than the Conroe versions (Ones with some cache defective or disabled) and are therefore more tricky to overclock.

That's how I read the available information anyway.

hmmmm... I see, hopefully my E6700 is gonna be ok... I was very tempted to RMA it and go for one of the more "bang for buck" models... but knowing how many different versions there are out there I held off... I know I'd be gutted if I bought a lesser model and for some reason it couldn't even hit E6700 speeds 'cause I will actually use the power... at least this chip will retain a higher resale for the average punter too, so in the long run the price difference is not too painfull really. There are plenty of less knowledgable people out there who will just buy according to the stock spec, which on paper is always gonna look better at the end of the day...
