Ive got a e6600 CPU the first time I powered my new build up everything seemed fine the only thing I noticed was that the fan was hardly spinning, but after about 5minutes it looked like it was spinning at the correct speed. Now ive installed xp the same thing happens after about 5minutes the fan looks like it as reached full speed. Has anyone else had this before?

Just has I wrote that thread the fan slowed down and sped back-up

Do I need to turn off my pc as I dont want to damage the CPU?

It'll most likely either be some Q-Fan type settings in your BIOS that is adjusting the fan speed or the CPU that is doing it. I think the BIOS setting for the CPU is the PECI one? Do the stock fans have the four pin connectors instead of the normal three?

download "Intel Thermal Analysis Tool" and see what CPU temp you have - post a screenshot ...

Can I not look in the bios for that? I will download that software but holding off from using the internet on it for the time being as Iam not sure what anti-virus and firewall I want just yet.

You will most likely have to the BIOS and change the CPU Fan Settings.

If your system is under load it will spin slower than if your system is working hard.

I think on most mother boards the default setting is for the fan to adjust it's speed according to temperature.

That's probably it and if I were you I wouldn't worry as my arctic freezer 7 pro did exactly the same thing until I set it to spin constantly :)

Correct.

Thanks all so I don't need to suddenly turn my pc off then? Thats very cleaver how it spin's on how hard you rae working the pc. I was worried my CPU might get damaged. Ive got the side off at the mo to monitor anything like this happening.n

Yer is a 4pin from the fan to the mobo, blue, yellow, green and black cables.
