Hi there

Just wanted to know whether the e6600 with the stock Intel heatsink will run ok if overclocked to 3ghz

What could i push the e6600 to before having to consider replacing the heatsink?

Cheers

Well you will have check the temps as you overclock and check the load and idle temps. There is no direct conversion from GHz to degree C, only a rough estimate but even then it depends on your room temp, airflow in your case, etc. Preferably you'll want something below 60C, but try and get them as low as you can anyway. Use something like CoreTemp to get the temp of each core.

I'd recommend replacing the stock cooler anyway with something that isn't too expensive like Arctic Cooler 7, or for better cooling go for something like the Noctua U12F or Tuniq Tower. You'll want to keep the temps as low as possible so that your components live longer.

It may or may not depending on the stepping, some run plain hot, some have concave IHS's etc.. under 70C in a TAT induced load is fine. Would replace it though as its crappy and loud.
