E6600 Temperature

Hi, was just wondering if my current temp is ok. During idle its about 36c (if my room is warmish) and can get up 45c or a bit more when under load. I have an artic cooler 7 pro, and i've been hearing about how low the temps are for C2D, but i was expecting something a bit lower than what im getting.

Perhaps the thermal paste on the artic cooler pro isnt that good?

Them temps look fine to me. Are they taken with TAT?

Sounds good. Makes a change from E6600's at 60ºC+.
This is the only thing that worries me about buying an E6600, that and i've read of a few not clocking well.

I'm not sure if there is a problem with my setup, but I too have recently upgraded to a 6600 and the temperatures with TAT are ridiculous!

Using a Freezer 7 Pro my chip idles at 50C!! This is with no overclocking at all. Overclocking to 3.2ghz with no vcore increase and the idle temperature shoots up to 68C!

I have tried re-seating the hsf 3 times and each time I get the same result. I've checked the footprint of the thermal paste and there seems to be good contact - the IHS doesn't seems to be nice and flat. I've heard that the freezer pro might have issues with bad heatpipes... could this be the case?

So, I'm basically thinking of getting a new hsf:

Short-listed to:

Scythe Ninja Rev B - I've heard the new mounting system isn't great though.

Tuniq Tower 120 - will this fit in a P160?

Can someone please recommend?

Specs as below:

Antec P160
Silenx fans on low
E6600
Asus P5B-deluxe
2gb Crucial Anniversary
Sapphire x1950 pro

p.s Sorry for hijacking your thread.

I thought I might add that my old system housed in the P160 previously had no problems with temperature. Old system was an AMD 3800+ X2 and fully loaded that sat at 54c with all the fans completely on low. I had the arctic freezer 64 pro on that chip also on low. When I mention low - I mean 5v.

Are the intel chips that much hotter?

I have the same problem with my E6600, with the stock fan, I was getting temps of around 50 idle, with the Artic cooler pro 7 im getting 47c idle. So much for the new cooler

Is PWM enabled in the BIOS?

The reason I ask is my chip idles at 38c and goes to 56c with fan at 100%. With PWM enabled the figures jump to 49c and 59c.

I leave PWM enabled. why? because the ACF7p is too noisy without it.

i have the same problem :(

I'll say it again, 45-50c at idle with PWM enabled isn't bad.

The ACF7p is in it's element when the fan speed increases and will far outperform the stock cooler when the cpu is under load.

Well i'll be using a Tuniq Tower, but i'm still unsure about getting the 6600. There a lot of people reporting high temps with them, especially when overclocking.

You'll be fine with a tuniq proc. If you can afford a conroe with 4mb l2 then go for it.

I did and it was the best purchase I've made in a long time.

@ 200sx

yea... pwm enabled. The sounds would destroy my ears otherwise!

I just don't understand people quoting lower than 40c idles with pwm enabled on a freezer 7 pro!

I should mention that I have speedstep enabled aswell.

Hopefully the tuniq will make these temps a lot lower and also enable me to overclock comfortably.
