These temps seem so high for an idle stock e6600 with a thermaright SI-128 heat sink. I cant seem to get the temps down any further.

Have very good air flow and a tidy case. Ive had the stock heat sink and the thermalright on it but the temps wont go much lower. Have also put some new arctic silver on it.

Are these cpu's generally this hot?

Bin all the other temp monitoring tools, the only one you're intrested is the one at the bottom, TAT. It reads 52 and 50 at 100% which is perfectly normal for a C2D.

You might want to take another look at that pic before you give that advice........ those temps are idle not 100% load

They are high temps for an idle unclocked core2 mate, im running stock cooler on a E6600 overclocked to 3.15 and my 100% load temps only reach 54-56

if you read thru a few theads you will find other people have been having the same problem first thing i would say would be try reseating again

My C2D is running stock volts 3.05ghz and idles at 60C :(

I don't dare push it any further without getting the temps down.

What's this lapping of the chip's heatspreader? Can you just get some sandpaper and take it down?

My e6600 @ 2.4ghz stock volts idles at 23C!!! I'm using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro + AS5.

Overclocked to 3.2 ghz 1.3V(400x8) I idle at 32C. :D

Check your HSF and see if the pins are locked properly in place.

i have reseated and applied a new thin layer of arctic silver 5. got it down by 1 or 2'c.

Im fairly concerned about the aux temps in speed fan and tjunction in core temps. what do these relate to?

Anyone with an asus p5b deluxe mobo - How hot should the Fanless Heat Pipe & Stack Cool 2 get? I currently do not have the fan attached due to my cpu heat sink. It feels quite hot to touch.

Thats quite incredible for aircooling, what else is in your set up, and what speed do you run the fan at?

I have a thermaltake soprano case, 2x 120mm fans (1front, 1 exhaust) and with 1x 80mm fan at the side.

My cooler is the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro at max ~2800 rpm. For some reason, at idle, even if I have the speed at 1600 rpm, the idle temps stay pretty much the same. I guess these c2ds don't put out as much heat.

:D

I concur with smsmasters with same chip and heatsink my idle temps are only 1-2 C higher.

There is something wrong with Beerbaron's temps. Re-check the seating of the heatsink but if they are OK I would check that the CPU heatspreader and heatsink base are really flat by holding them up to the light with a razor blade or other straight edge across the top. Then you will see if the CPU heatspreader or heatsink is flat.

cheers

My E6300 @ 3.2Ghz 1.45V idle at 38c full load at 48c

Maybe due to higher voltage

The few reviews I've read of the AF 7 Pro don't seem to favourable, and the lack of a speed controller puts me off.

i have just lapped my heat sink and cpu. idle temps with:

tat: core1: 41'c and core 2 39'c

pc wizard:46'c

The corners of my heat sink were definately not flat
