Hi guys,
I got some advice about this 10900k build on the forum becasue I was a 'bit out of the loop' with not having built a PC in about 5 years, having kids etc. getting in the way! I was given some great advice, apart from moving to AMD, I'm 'Intel till I die'!!
Unfortunately I don't have any images of the my first ever PC build, it was a E6600 I bought on release day. It was also my first overclock too!
Again, there might be some missing processors, but I only upgraded every 3-4 years, but it always had to be the latest stuf.
I think next was a Q6600, and then the Q9450, again both on release days. The Q6600 was in a HUGE case as it was my first attempt at water cooling, back in the day when it was a bit 'risky' to do.
The Q9450 was in a Mountain Mods UFO case. Not sure they even still exist!
Into the MM case then went a Q9450 and a i7 920, both watercooled and overclocked, as were the gfx cards.
Then about 5 years ago I bought a 900D case and in went a realease day 6700k and a 980ti. 6700k was at 4.8ghz. Also, my first ever m.2 drive, I think this was the first mobo that supported it, you can see it there in the images on a green PCB!
I have never gone for any massive overclocks, but always something reasonable.
Recently, I got the urge to upgrade again, my 980ti has been struggling, not that I do a lot of gaming at the moment, but I've just noticed a general slowing down of the PC.
So I came on here, and got some advice and ordered some new bits! The only things I used from my 6700k build was my AX1200i power supply, the 980ti, a 1TB 2.5inch EVO860 and a MP510 1TB M2 drive I upgraded a few months back.
When building the 900D I decided to leave the dust filters off so you could see the white rimmed Corsair SP120 fans on the radiator. When dismantling the 900D, there might have been a slight dust issue......
This new build was in a 465X case with the ax1200i, ASUS XII Hero, 2 x MP510 1GB M2's, the 980ti (waiting for the 3000 Nvidias), a Corsair 150i XT Pro, 32GB Corsair RGB 3600mhz RAM, 6x QL120mm fans with a Node Core and a Corsair Commander Pro.
I watched a few vids about overclocking the 10900k. Mine is stable at about 1.22v in Cinebench 20, but it will not pass the Intel XTU. When I get more time I will try tweaking some stuff, but it's stable at 5.1GHZ at 1.32v in the bois in Intel XTU, cache is at 4.8GHz. Temps at idle are 34degrees, max at 68 in Cinebench20 and XTU.
I have put the stock cooler back on the 980ti, but that idles at 65 degrees! I have removed and replaced the cooler, but it is still the same. I am on triple monitors, 1440p and 2 x 1080p. I tried some CSGO quickly, at it maxes at 85 degrees, although afterburner has max at 85, so I am not sure it's throttling. The 3000 series Nvidia will hopfully be here in Oct(?) and I will leave that air cooled too.
Here are a fee pics, I will say, I dont like cable management, but there is very little space on the rear of the 465x case, and with a large PSU, finding room for all the cables, the Node Core and the Commander Pro, things get messy. I don't really care, nobody can see it!
If anyone has an ideas how to get stable in XTU and reduce voltage, let me know!
Cheers
