I have just bought a cheap (new) E8500. I am looking forward to replacing my E6600 and trying for around 4 GHz.
I was after an E8600 really but I couldn't justify the £100 extra.

XP to Windows 7 64 bit next. At last I will see all my RAM!

That will do me for a while (12 months at least)

I don't see point moving from E6600 to E8500, if E6600 was good clocker especially!

I could only get 3.4 GHz maximum out of my E6600, and that was approaching 1.48v, I chose to run it at 3.3 GHz with 1.4v.

I am gaining an extra 2 mb of L2 Cache, and around 700 MHz clock speed.

E6600s are still fetching around £50. I can't think of a better upgrade for £60.

I have already tried a Quad and I was disappointed by the result.

My personal preference at this moment is the Wolfdale CPUs as my Conroe has always served me well, they are cooler and faster. A win win I would say.
