E6600 to Q6600

Is it worth upgrading to this chip, if i already have a E6600 ?

Probably not 'worth' it, but the fun and 'experimentation with a new chip' factor is beyond measure

Not many games uses the extra cores at the moment, and those that do are so much more affected by whatever graphics card you are running.

I'd just save for G92 (next NVidia series) out in November.

Not for most games, but I think there are plenty of productivity/creative (with a small c) apps that benefit. Plus Crysis *probably* will.

I dont understand why people are asking other people if they should upgrade?

Ask yourself this:

Are you currently happy with your current system? If your not then work out what your exactly not happy with and take it from their and upgrade accordinaly.

im well happy with it at the minute!

will i be happy with it when i cant play bioshock, crysis etc at high res with **** loads of eye candy? no!

other people on here know more about the current technology and whats coming up in the near future, they give advice on whats best suited to budgets, best bang for buck. thats why people ask for advice.

i cant see what contribution you made to this thread other than a post count +1

That gives us no information at all. If he had said something like, at the moment i have a E6600 just wondering if it will be worth upgrading to a Q6600. This is what i use my pc for (insert here). All we know he could be using hes pc for video encoding, editing etc... then yes he would benefit hugely from a Quad Core. Without him saying what he uses hes pc for how can anyone say no you do/dont need to upgrade.

I use my computer for gaming, ive decided to save the money for a new GFX card any way. As i think that would make more of a difference than the CPU.

CoreTemp will give you the default vcore of your CPU. It's the VID reading.

The default vcore differs between individual CPU's. My Q6600 is 1.275v, but some Q6600's are as high as 1.325v.
