Im a gamer who loves high fps in my first person shooter games, and would like to know if its worth getting the e6850 when i already own the e6600.

I would say no. You wouldnt see much imrpovement, better would be upgrading to graphics card.

ok, well i am going to upgrade my pc with a new graphics card anyway. so a definate no with a new cpu then.

If you play mainly css like me, you'll know that the source engine is quite cpu dependent.

Atm css doesn't properly support multi-core cpu's, which is why I'm still using my FX-55 (3 years old). Still averaging 100fps.

But when HL2Ep2 comes out, it'll support multi-core cpu's and you'll get more from your C2D.

So after that comes out, I may revamp my pc accordingly.

My advice would be to wait till after September when HL2Ep2 is out :D

FPS = gfx intensive games...

most p4's/p d's will do for fps games...

now, if you were an RTS gamer... raw cpu speed is your friend :D

I own a E6600 as well m8 but ive just placed a pre order for the E6850 as they should clock well under water :D

Well since you already have the 6600 try it out in your new rig and if you dont like it you can always upgrade.

What speed is your CPU at? I get 200 fps with GFX card at stock & CPU @ 2.8GHz.

So when Episode 2 is release, CS:S will get multi-core CPU support?

Stock for now, might clock it later when I get some money for cooler.

Got a 3 year old 6800 atm.

Stress test with everything high is like 140fps, but goes up to 200 and down to just below 80 in matches, 60 in public.

It will indeed :D, dunno if we'll have to buy it. Might jus' have to download a mega update :p

Shimmy: Sweet. I'm sure we won't have to pay for it. Reminds me of the update to the original Half-Life when they doubled the texture resolutions and increased the poly counts. Hopefully multi-core support won't be the only update. CS:S is looking a bit dated already.
