All I want to do is clock my E6600 to a simple 3.0GHZ
I have a Asus P5B Deluxe, I go into the Bios, Jumper config and change my speed to 333, the computer reboots and my monitor wont come on. I have to pull the power to get the chance to go back to default, the highest I've managed to get it at is 2.8GHZ anything more not a chance!
I using a 600W OCZ GameXstream PSU.
Any ideas?

you haven't mentioned it so have you tried increasing the voltage to the cpu? i doubt there are many e6600s that would boot at 3.0ghz on stock volts.

Go up 1 increasement each time, then save the voltage and reboot, and keep and increasing by 1 increasment each time until it boots/ is stable.

I have the same CPU, also looking for a clock of around 3GHz. I've got it to 2.5Ghz, but it runs at 60C per core under load! If I go any higher it will melt surely? This is with the stock cooler, and I installed everything yesterday.

99 out of 100 E6600 will do 3gig on stock voltage - most will do 3.15 +/- 50MHz on stock voltage...

I'd say the OP's problem is hes raising the memory up at the same time as the FSB and its not liking it - he doesn't say what his RAM is but if its PC-6400 then its jumping up from 800MHz to 1000MHz and few kits will handle that.

i suggest you read an overclocking guide, you need to change a lot of settings not just 1 or 2, i have an e6600 and an asus p5b deluxe, and i reckon i changed at least 20 different settings in the bios to get mine to 3.6ghz on 1.5V

Crash course!

As you turn up the CPU Bus the memory bus goes up with it. You need to lower the ram speed but changing the RAM Divider.

It may be that your motherboard can't operate at such a high speed which means you have to lower the HTT multiplyer.

Ah... just read the guide and maybe get a knowledgable being to help you out if you have any that you know :)

Hehe you may need to read that crash course yourself Jaffa! :D

The O.P is using a P965 chipset which can't run the memory on a lower divider, all he can do is manually enter a vDimm value, adjust timings and specify if the memory will run at the same speed as the FSB or faster, I mention the last bit because some boards (ASUS P5B-Deluxe) will attempt to run the memory on n upward divider if left on auto, this may cause a problem with certain ram.

Is this an 650i thing?

Are u kidding? More than 90% of the E6600s that i've had and have passed through here would do 3Ghz+ quite stably on stock volts. Even the rubbish steppings can do that.

Sounds like you havent change your ram divider or a lack of vcore, though as people have said most will do 3GHz @ stock.

Read idiots guide to OC'ing CD2's. This should help.

Wel... that was painless! Now running at 3.0GHz. Had to make the Memory multiplier 2, so it's now at 1:1 with the FSB at 333Mhz.

I rock :D Although thats a bad OC :O

Shouldn't be running the RAM so slowly, will bottleneck your hole pc.

I agree i had to change a fair bit to get my P5B Wifi and E6600 to run at 3.01Ghz, that included upping the vCore to 1.400v amongst other things.
