Got a e6700 on a Gigabyte P35-DS3P and it's idling at 55 degrees and 68 full load (TAT).

Using a Noctua NH-U12F with AS5 (mounted so fan is blowing from bottom of case into heatsink), I've also tried the intel stock cooler and temps are similar.

Case is a brand new Eclipse 62, cables are all tidy with a fan intake at the front, so I really can't see where these temps would be coming from! :(

Any ideas anyone?

Concave/convex IHS? might be worth having a loop at the CPU and holding a razorblade on the top of it to make sure that it's flat, same for the bottom of the Noctua heatsink.

Yup, at stock and reporting 1.248 in CPU-Z

The guy who I purchased it from said he got 3.6ghz at 40 degs(ish) using a Thermaltake Typhoon cooler, so I'm not sure if it's the chip! :(

Could it be incorrect sensor readings? The heatsink isn't too hot to touch

Just had a thought, the Silentpipe Northbridge cooler situated directly below the CPU is rather hot, could that be affecting the temp sensor on the cpu?

Just touched the intel stock heatsink I'm running atm and it's hardly warm!

P35C-DS3R, e6600+scythe ninja+1500rpm fan, gts8800
no oc yet running it all in for awile.

tat is working ok here i think, idle@28c load in orthos 46c, load in tat 51c

no headpipes on my board though just some copper looking hs

Tried the old spread it with a credit card, and also the "vertical line" method as shown on the AS website

Stepping? I've got 2 HOT L629B E6600 that hit almost 70C easily on stock speed and volts with stock sink. Waiting on a Ultra 120 so i could carry one back to 3.4 1.3v again :D

Is there any other way to find out stepping other than physically looking at the CPU?

There are no known issues with Gigabyte board incorrectly reporting temps are there?

The heatsink is only a little warm, and everything is very stable - i believe I'm using the latest bios too

I'm running an E6600 @ stock and its about 48°C idle and 60°C full load but thats with the stock intel cooler I haven't tried another yet...

Still seems hot.

I'm using a Gigabyte N680i DQ6 think I have similar heatpipes all over the place?

Hmm, just got a 2nd fan for the Noctua and it's now at 50 idle 60 load

That's more like it, although its still hot!
