Hi Guys,

I have the following setup.

Asus P5W DH (Bios 1015)
Corsair XMS PC 8500 GB
E6700 + Nina for cooling

I can't seem to get the CPU to clock to over 3.6 stably.

Has any one else got higher with a E6700???

Cheers

Andy

You're doing well to get 3.6GHz to be honest. Only going with more extreme cooling is likely to get you more.

What he said.

What voltage are you running for 3.6Ghz?

1.4500 iirc

I did get the machine to turn on at 3.7 but then reset it's self on loading windows.

Whats a Safe voltage.

I have it stable @ 3.34 ghz @ 1.4250v

I'd say under 1.5v for air personally, at least for 24/7 use. Problem is no one has owned one of these chips long enough to know at what point voltage becomes a killer.

You should definitely be happy with 3.6Ghz if its stable at 1.450v - that's a 1Ghz overclock on a chip and isn't going to be surpassed by any new chip for quite a while, the new Intel Conroe EE when it arrives will "only" be 3.33Ghz.

Is that 1.45v bios setting or what the bios reads once set from its sensors??
These boards all undervolt quite a bit, so a bit more vcore won't hurt.

X6800 will go to 3.72Ghz on air. Can get 3.8 with fiddling. But the 3.6Ghz area is the barrier with Core 2 Duo for air really. 4Ghz can be had but with an amount of volts most wouldnt consider safe on air (1.6v  :D ).

Only got my 6700 the other day...running with MSI 975 PowerUP and 2GB OCZ 6400....can't get stable beyond 3.1...have got to 3.3 at 1.4v but didn't get more than 10mins before it reset the pc. What about the C1E and Speedstep functions have you got them disabled?...I got the chip for a very good price so can't complain at 3.1 but a little higher would be nice.
Forgot also using a Ninja

Disable C1E and Speedstep, it'll just get in the way.

My E6700 will do 3.4Ghz at 1.3250v, and 3.6Ghz at 1.4250v (BIOS settings, actual+vdroop is lower)

The most i got was 3.7Ghz prime stable with 1.55v bios. It primed for an hour or so on stock volts at 3.3Ghz which looked promising but it didnt scale that well.

It was a lot cooler under load than my 6600 is, my best clocking opterons ran the hotest too.

have mine a t 3.3 now on 1.41v and played about an hour of Fear with no problems....quit out and temp was at 50c which then dropped down to 41c
ram is running at 815 4,5,4,15 at 2.15v don't know how much further this can be pushed and the mem dividers on the board are useless.

ill have a bit of a play with mine over the weekend.

What boards and setting are you guys running?

are they 1:1 ram timings

Cheers
