Hey all,

I currently have an E6750 @3.2, 680i mobo, 6GB PC2 6400 RAM and 2xGTX260 216 in SLi. I'm noticing that games that are CPU intensive, such as STALKER: Clear Sky/Call of Pripyat and DCS: Black Shark are only getting about 20-50 FPS, never much higher. I run W7 RC1 at 1920x1200.

What's the current favourite tech? Is i7 still popular (I'll admit, I know nothing about i7!)? Would it be worth upgrading, or would it be too pricey for the performance boost?

Thanks!

ive just ordered the rest of my 1156 build msi gd65, i7 860 and geil 2133mhz ram.
coming from a simler spec to urs e6850 n650sli board.
ill let u know when i get it all build up !
im hoping that there will be a significant diffrence !

So am I, because that doesn't sound cheap at all!

Bump! :) Worth spending the £130? I know they can't support 45nm C2Q, but can the XFX 680is be flashed to support C2D 45nm chips?

They can be flashed to support 45nm dual cores but not 45nm quads, for theese you need a 780i board.

Thanks, worth the upgrade?

Also, my system is already heavily OC'd along with SLi. Would it be safe to OC the E8400 to 4GHz, as well as continue to run my two GTX260s on the 680i? I've read that it can cause serious heat problems for the southbridge chip.

If you could source an E8400 second hand and sell your current cpu. id say it would be worth it, 4ghz would come easy enough on an E8400, you could also add a fan of some sort to the NB/SB chipsets.

I agree with setter here , sounds like the most feasible option without huge upgrades or cost. You will also get a jump in performance too.
