evening all

couple of quick questions for the floor:

1. I have a e6750 oc'd to 3.4 which seems to be fine but locks up at seemingly odd moments. I have gamed on it including XCTC which is supposed to by CPU intensive which is fine, the lock up seem to be when the system is almost idle, web browsing and the like. CPU & system temps seem fine. Does this sound like an issue with the OC or another issue possibly caused by the swtich to Win 7? I have manaully updated all of the drivers i could think of and the Win 7 install is only a month or so old.

2. What sort of voltage is recommended for an e6750?

3. I have picked up a couple of the stress test tools from the sticky, is there a recomended order? i.e quick test with program A if succesful move to program B

Hey there lollox :)

I have a e6750 oc'd to 3.4 which seems to be fine but locks up at seemingly odd moments.

Intel® Core™2 Duo E6750
  • 8 x 333 = 2664
  • 8 x 425 = 3400

What exact specification is this ram?

Here is a new program that will allow you to very easily publish "detailed" hardware information about your system so that anyone who wishes to help you knows whats going on!

If you install that and then go to File >> Publish Snapshot it will give you a URL which you can paste here!

thanks Wayne for the reply

the Ram is Geil DDR2 - 800 Cas4

Edit - 4 x 1gb sticks

I was thinking of reducing the OC on the processor whilst increasing the multiplier on the ram to find out which one is causing the fail, does this sound like a sensible step.

I have football tonight so i could and hopefully will leave the PC running a longer test at this time.

I have downloaded Prime 95 but have not run any tests on it, is there any in particular you would recommend?

My son's E6750 had simular problem at about 3.3GHz, 4x1 sticks of OCZ, mobo - P35 DS3P, tried everything. Did a little googling > found out that 4x1GB for OC'ing is a bit more unstable then 2x2GB sticks. So reduced the OC by steps of 20 and settled for 3.240GHz never faltered after that.

Hope this helps. :)

If your running the processor @ 3.4GHz your overlocking the ram past its rated speed of 400MHz (DDR2-800) . . . it will be running at 425MHz (DDR2-850) which it probably doesn't like?

If you reduce the clock to 3.2GHz you will be fine!

  • 8 x 400 = 3200
either that or if wanting to keep 3.4GHz then perhaps "juice" up the sticks with a bit more vDimm to see if that helps!
